GUYS. We spent our Nassau, Bahamas, port day exploring the Sandals Royal Bahamian resort and it is gorgeous! You know how you see a resort’s marketing photos and they make it seem like you’ll have the beaches to yourself but that never happens in real life? These are my actual photos! Amanda and I had the beaches to ourselves! It was amazing! The Royal Bahamian also has a small semi-private island which is a mini resort unto itself. The staff were lovely and the property was clean and well-maintained. If you’re looking for an all-inclusive beach vacation, I highly recommend the Sandals Royal Bahamian!

Amanda and I can’t say enough good things about the train from Fort Lauderdale to Miami. Travel Agent Tip: Get the Premium ticket. Totally worth it! And our experience on the Celebrity Summit has been great so far! Our stateroom is lovely and spacious, and it has the nicest bathroom of any cruise line I’ve been on. ⭐️ Up tomorrow: Key West and a couple of Celebrity surprises!

Yesterday we made our final landing at Deception Island, a former whaling base that was destroyed by a volcanic eruption. The landscape was quite different than what we’d seen so far because it’s an active volcano. It’s also home to Chinstrap Penguins, one of whom was enjoying the sunshine with us. 🖤🐧🤍 Today we are back in the Drake Passage, though the waves aren’t too bad. (Tomorrow is supposed to be worse.)

One of the best things about this trip is how respectful the Hurtigruten staff are to the animals. In this pic, you can see the intersection of a “penguin highway” - the paths the penguins have created through the snow to get back and forth from the rookeries, where the eggs are being incubated, to the ocean where they bathe and feed - and the path we take when we are off the boat exploring the continent. Penguins are ALWAYS given the right of way, even if the humans have to wait several minutes for the traffic to clear. Hurtigruten staff position themselves at every intersection to ensure the humans act as respectful guests in the penguins’ territory.

I don’t think I’ll ever tire of this view.

Here is a pic of last night’s beautiful sunset at 10:30 pm. Tonight the sun will set just after midnight and rise again at 2 am. It’s our second day in the Drake passage and the waves are much calmer today (though we’re all still lurching about the ship, rather than walking). We started spotting some huge icebergs this afternoon (pic 2). You can also see that I’m in my natural climate and Ben is freezing his ass off! 😂
