Nesting season begins in a few short days, we are so excited!
3. The next tip we have for keeping our beaches turtle friendly is to not disturb turtle tracks. When we patrol, we look for turtle crawls, tracks left by the mama sea turtle as she pulls herself across the sand. They are typically between 24-40" wide for our Kemps and Loggerhead turtles. The tracks are followed to look for potential nests. They can also help us find disoriented turtles (see day 1 and white lights). We measure and document all turtle tracks on our beaches. Even false crawls , where a turtle comes ashore but doesn’t nest, provide valuable information.
2. Leave Only Footprints on our beaches.
1. No white lights on the beaches.
