As we circled around the Bergie bit and the Icerberg Cowboys

24/07/2023

Some videos I took last week of one of our ‘Iceberg Cowboy’ suppliers harvesting a bergie bit to transform the pure water of this iceberg into delicious beverages of various kinds.

Now a closer view from the air of the same iceberg in Twillingate. Spectacular to see and notice there are more bergs in the area.

22/06/2023

Better perspective of the grounded iceberg in Twillingate and it’s size.

A few short videos to give perspective on how big some of the icebergs still are. Next three reels are of the same berg in mouth of Twillingate.
That dot to the left is a Iceberg Quest tour boat.

First class adventure yesterday from Fogo Island Inn to Gros Morne for some hiking with Mother Nature once again the star of the show.
Our group saw thousands of icebergs, here is the view flying towards White Bay.

Iceberg season is still on the go!! Taken in Conception Bay, just off Lower island Cove.

Legendary Iceberg Alley Adventure
North America’s Ultimate Iceberg Viewing Trip
3 Days Two Nights
Spring/Early Summer 2023

Witness the awe-inspiring beauty of majestic icebergs through this custom designed sky, water, and land adventure. This exclusive opportunity offers guests a once-in-a-lifetime chance to encounter 10,000-year-old icebergs through private helicopters, boats, and guided walks on special sections of coastal trails for unrivaled multi-level viewing.

Our Iceberg Alley Adventure is timed to coincide with the few weeks per year (mid-may to June) that icebergs drift near Newfoundland’s east coast, giving you an enhanced opportunity to encounter them up close, and from more angles than ever offered before.

This three-day bespoke trip combines high altitude, sea level, cliff-side views of spectacular icebergs paired with unique Newfoundland culinary components, exclusive accommodations, expert academic and natural history guest speakers, backstage passes to iceberg-specific museum tours, vibrate cultural events, and more.

Throughout this journey, guests will experience the allure of icebergs from both the land, sea, and air. Fly over these glacial giants from a private helicopter, then admire the beauty, immense size and unique colours from the water. For a different perspective still, you can walk alongside the icebergs from the best ocean-view sections of our coastal trails. Here, you can discover icebergs hidden in small coves and inlets, offering the potential to collect smaller pieces of iceberg (called bergie bits) to make that post-walk drink as refreshing as possible.

Enjoy special access to renowned ice scientists from Memorial University to provide educational and practical laboratory applications, and to learn more about how icebergs impact the various industries that operate within these coastal waters. Guests can also look forward to the chance to meet some of the Iceberg Cowboys who captain ships that harvest iceberg ice (formed from fresh, glacial water) for local drinks and other delicacies.
The small group size ensures superior, bespoke service, personalized attention, and unparalleled hospitality.

Edge of Nature Luxury Coastal Chalets

Deliciously remote, it’s located in the rediscovered outport of Little Harbour. This abandoned outport exposes Newfoundland’s true nature by offering unparalleled access to beaches, coastal trails, and seascapes available only by helicopter or small boat.

This helicopter flight to Little Harbour Trinity Bay cuts hours of highway driving and ferry travel while providing spectacular aerial coastal views on your way, nestled between old forests and quiet coves in the coastal mountains of Trinity.

Perched on the coastline, this boutique escape immerses guests in the regenerative power of Newfoundland's seascape and welcoming culture. Hidden away in a sheltered, once vibrant but now resettled cove that has no roads, is this small, sustainable family run business offering private availability. These luxury accommodations are designed to offer authentic coastal luxury.

Tucked in the corner of Little Harbour are two coastal-style chalets; each one is surrounded by ancient forest and perched over the ocean. Edge of Nature features two bedroom coastal-style chalets with a private chef catering to guests’ exact culinary interests.

Both standalone chalets have indoor and outdoor fireplaces, numerous panoramic windows that offer a warm and cozy spot to linger or have glass of wine on the private balconies. There are four luxury bedrooms available and from every room guests can hear the tide waters of Smith South wash in and out underneath their Chalet. Wifi, showers and private helipad are the small concessions to the 21st century, as the chalets remain gloriously traditional.

The Treetops chalet is made up of two bedrooms the master bedroom has a king-size bed, the other has two twin beds (which can be converted to a king). A lounge area with a sofa, chairs, a desk, and is heated by cast-iron wood burning stove; for early morning there is a ‘coffee corner,’ while from afternoon onward this space beautifully converts to a bar zone. These two rooms share a balcony with peaceful views of both ocean and forest.

The Beach Chalet sits on stilts over the ocean, also has two bedrooms, a spacious living room facing the ocean, with fireplace and full kitchen.

Edge of Nature is the perfect home base to explore picturesque trails, for boating in sheltered island waterways, kayaking alongside whales and icebergs, fly fishing or experiencing a true slice of Newfoundland culture ‘jigging’ for cod.

All experiences are personally curated for guests, curiosity and energy dictate the uncommon adventures they experience. Customize adventures and roam at will. There are endless opportunities to connect and unwind. Folks can explore along the edge of nature as they please, enjoying rural Newfoundland’s authentic culture, unscripted. This is a place where Time passes slowly and with maximum pleasantness.

Activities available include half- or full-day salmon fishing, coastal kayaking among the channels, iceberg and whale-watching, picnicking in special locations with unobstructed views of the water, connecting with local culture by cruising coastlines, visiting abandoned mines and fishing communities, and cod jigging.

Many hiking opportunities exist, from vigorous hillside viewpoints treks to meandering strolls along coastal trails and everything in between. Getting lost for an afternoon among a conifer forest with no emails to answer or appointments to keep is satisfying, but eating your freshly caught cod over an outdoor grill is life altering.

If guests are interested in extras there are also opportunities to head out on a scenic flight, by using the private helicopter, it’s always a good idea to keep eyes peeled for whales swimming and icebergs floating below.

A place of space, beauty and most of all time with exclusive availability of eight guests, our ‘Best Kind’ package includes coastal helicopter transfers to & from St. John's to Little Harbour, all meals and beverages, including house alcohol, guided hiking and coastal kayaking activities. Our local expert guides will make you as comfortable in urban St. John’s as on the trails in and around Little Harbor.
