Do you know about the COVID-19 Retail Storefront Property Tax Relief Act?

House Bill 2136, enacted during the 2022 Legislative Session, created the COVID-19 Retail Storefront Property Tax Relief Act, the purpose of which is to provide financial assistance to certain businesses impacted by COVID-19 related shutdowns and restrictions during tax years 2020 and 2021. The financial assistance will be in an amount equivalent to a portion of property taxes accrued on the retail storefront property. The Department of Revenue has issued Notice 22-04, COVID-19 Retail Storefront Property Tax Relief Act which provides details of the program, business that will not qualify, and the calculation of the assistance that may be granted.

The Department has developed an on-line application that may be submitted to apply for assistance through the COVID-19 Retail Storefront Property Tax Relief Act. The application provides definitions, explains the assistance process in detail, and specifies exactly what information must be provided and/or submitted in support of the application. Claimants have until April 15, 2023 to file an application for this financial assistance.

Unfortunately, this morning we did not have enough members present to make a quorum for our vote on the proposed bylaws.

We will be holding another business meeting on November 4th, at 5pm, just prior to our Gala Annual Meeting & Trolley Fundraiser.

As our membership grows, so does the number it takes to pass this initiative. Please pencil this date in so that we can keep making progress for YOU in our association.

KDWP has been awarded $25 million in federal RAISE funds to nearly complete the Flint Hills Trail State Park from Herington to Council Grove and upgrade two other sections of the trail.

This is a game-changer!

RAISE AWARD AMOUNT: $24,821,705 APPLICANT: KANSAS DEPARTMENT OF WILDLIFE AND PARKS STATE: KANSAS RURAL Project Description: The project will construct approximately 40-miles of the Flint Hills Trail in Kansas, nearly completing this 118-mile linear park "rail-trail".

The project includes drainage improvements, pipes, culverts, bridges, base improvements, limestone surfacing, fences, gates, bollards, safety improvements and signage.
Project Benefits: The trail will offer an alternative to driving as well as provide outdoor recreation opportunities in a rural area that is currently fragmented with very few public outdoor recreational areas. There is also opportunity for the project to boost recreation and nature tourism, as evidenced by establishment of ten new businesses related to the trail in the past three years.
