The Kokoda Track is a 96km straight line, starting from Central Province and crossing over to Oro Province. This specific track is famous because it was used by the Australian and Japanese military as a battlefield in 1945 when world war 2 reached the shores of Papua New Guinea. A total of 3,000 Japanese and 600 Australian soldiers lost their lives here, many of their remains are buried at Bomana War Cemetery in Port Moresby. Each year on ANZAC day (April 25th) and Remembrance day (July 23rd) a service is held to commemorate the lives lost.

Another traditional style of cooking is by the use of bamboo. This type of cooking comes from the Eastern Highlands Province of PNG. Food is stuffed into a bamboo and placed over the fire to cook. The bamboo is turned from time to time allowing food on all sides to be cooked thoroughly.

Have you seen the national flag of PNG??

The flag of Papua New Guinea consists of two diagonal triangular sections.

On the black triangle is a five-pointed five-white star, which represents the Southern Cross star cluster, and on the red triangle is a yellow bird of paradise symbol.

Black, red and yellow are traditional colors which are found in Papua New Guinean art and clothing.

How would you like to visit PNG and find a bird of paradise?
