It's the time of year when we treat our bees for Varroa mites. We use a crucible full of Oxalic acid, stick it in the hive, seal the hive, and connect it to a car battery. The Oxalic acid turns to v***r and coats the bees, killing the mites. We apply a series of treatments several days apart to coat new bees who have recently emerged from their cells. The goal is to control the mite count over the winter.

Fall in Love with the Sunrises and Sunsets in NC's Brunswick Islands

In our southernmost corner of North Carolina, one of the South’s most intriguing natural phenomena occurs every fall through winter.

Named one of “10 Incredible Phenomena You Have to See in Fall” by Weather.com, the south-facing beaches of North Carolina’s Brunswick Islands have the rare distinction of running east-west as they parallel the shore. Beginning in late fall, this orientation means that on Oak Island, Caswell Beach, Sunset Beach, Ocean Isle Beach or Holden Beach and you can watch both the sunrise and sunset over the ocean. In fact during certain months, you can sit on the beach and view this phenomena without having to even move your beach chair!

“Because our beaches are generally oriented to face south and since the sun is far enough south in the late fall through early spring, the sun appears to both rise and set over the ocean off our shoreline.”

Of course because it’s so far south you can see sunrises and sunsets from the beach all year but not over the water for both

Ocean front 4 bedroom / 4.5 bathroom almost 3000 sq feet sleeps 12 and is pet friendly on Holden beach just had an availability open for Dec 25- Jan 8 . Let me know if you are interested in any or all of those days . We were just there this weekend and the weather is still warmish .
