At the end of the day today, we emptied out the last bit of glass from the furnace so it can begin its very slow cooldown over the holidays. After the New Year begins, we will start on our much needed maintenance cycle. During this time we are closed to the public. When everything is back up and running, we will make a post to let everyone know that we are back open to the public.

We can't say specifically why just yet....but you should tune in on October 11th to watch Forged in Fire!! 🔥

WE'RE ON FORGED IN FIRE! 🔥 We're thrilled to announce that the school’s Clay Spencer Blacksmith Shop is one of four locations appearing on the HISTORY Channel’s popular blacksmithing competition show Forged In Fire this fall. We'll be featured in the season’s third episode, titled “Appalachian Showdown,” airing on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 9 p.m. Eastern.

Celebrate with us! ⚒ We'll host weekly episode screenings in our Keith House Community Room, culminating with an end-of-season celebration reception and screening at the Peacock Performing Arts Center in Hayesville, NC. We'll also bring the three contestants back to Brasstown for a special meet and greet at the school’s Forge After Dark event and auction on November 3rd and 4th.

Hi friends, come blow glass with me on Thursday, August 24th at the Jackson County Green Energy Park! I'm offering 6 thirty minute classes; they tend to sell out quickly, so email me at [email protected] to reserve your spot and get more information. Can't wait to see y'all there!

If you can't make it this month, I plan to teach lessons once monthly with rotating options for classes.

UPDATE: Wow, this filled up fast!! There are no longer available slots on Thursday August 24th. What do chefs, furniture upholsterers and stylists all have in common? They all have tools that need sharpening! Knives and shears can last for years as long as they're taken care of properly. Jesse Bolding, one of our resident blacksmiths, offers sharpening services for knives, tools and shears.

Please email him at [email protected] for more information. Prices are $10 for a single item or $20/hour for many items. Turnaround time is 1-2 days, although typically faster.

It must be Christmas in July, because our studio is starting to fill with ornaments! Glass artists are starting to create their stock for the fall and winter of this year already and it's fascinating to watch. Come on by and see them work Monday-Friday from 9-4 PM.
