The Quran mentions fasting in several verses, including 2:183, 2:184, and 2:185.

These verses discuss the purpose of fasting, who is exempt from fasting, and how to make up missed fasts.

Verse 2:185

شَهْرُ رَمَضَانَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أُنزِلَ فِيهِ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ هُدًۭى لِّلنَّاسِ وَبَيِّنَـٰتٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْهُدَىٰ وَٱلْفُرْقَانِ ۚ فَمَن شَهِدَ مِنكُمُ ٱلشَّهْرَ فَلْيَصُمْهُ ۖ وَمَن كَانَ مَرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٍۢ فَعِدَّةٌۭ مِّنْ أَيَّامٍ أُخَرَ ۗ يُرِيدُ ٱللَّهُ بِكُمُ ٱلْيُسْرَ وَلَا يُرِيدُ بِكُمُ ٱلْعُسْرَ وَلِتُكْمِلُوا۟ ٱلْعِدَّةَ وَلِتُكَبِّرُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ عَلَىٰ مَا هَدَىٰكُمْ وَلَعَلَّكُمْ تَشْكُرُونَ

Surah Al-Kahf
18th surah of the Quran, comprising 110 verses

Surah Al-Kahf should be read during the night or the day of Jumu’ah.

The night of Jumu’ah starts from sunset on Thursday, and the day of Jumu’ah ends at sunset.

Therefore the time for reading this surah extends from sunset on Thursday to sunset on Friday.

The equivalence of Umrah and Hajj

Ibn ‘Abbas (May Allah be pleased with them) reported:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “(The performance of) ‘Umrah during Ramadan is equal to Hajj (pilgrimage).” Or said, “Equal to the performance of Hajj with me.”

(Al-Bukhari and Muslim)
Riyad as-Salihin 1278
Book 10, Hadith 8

Through this hadith, the Prophet ﷺ taught us that although an Umrah may not involve all the same rituals as a full Hajj, it still carries great reward if performed in Ramadhan due to its spiritual significance during this blessed month.
