Travel tip: when traveling it is often best to use a credit card if possible for transactions. You will generally get the best exchange rates and you don’t have to worry about carrying large amounts of cash.
But… leave the American Express and Discover cards at home- these aren’t widely accepted outside of the USA.
Other tip- many countries outside the US, especially in Europe, require your credit cards to have a pin. Call your card company a few weeks before travel so that you don’t run into issues!
Finally- getting the best exchange rate is great but it can be completely negated by foreign transaction fees. Check your card to see if foreign transaction fees are waived- if not you might consider a new card
