Presidium Unveils Site Plan for Historic Cotton Mill Transformation in McKinney Texas.

Presidium, a diversified real estate development, investment and management firm, has announced that the site plan for the Presidium Cotton Mill mixed-use development has received conditional approval from the City of McKinney, Texas.

To accommodate the exponential growth the area has been experiencing, plans for Presidium Cotton Mill will add to the recent success of the area led by the Casey Family by developing complementary infrastructure around the existing Cotton Mill. The project will span approximately 28 acres and is poised to feature approximately 200,000 square feet of Class-A office space and over 1.2 million square feet for multifamily residences.

Palladium USA officials break ground on $46M affordable housing project in McKinney.

A new multifamily affordable housing project by Dallas-based development firm Palladium USA is expected to open in McKinney in fall 2025.

Officials broke ground on the project during a Sept. 28 ceremony attended by representatives of Palladium USA along with city officials and McKinney City Council members.

Palladium McKinney will be located on about 5 acres of land at the northeast corner of Virginia Parkway and Carlisle Street.

According to a representative of Palladium, the four-story $46 million project includes:
172 multifamily units with one-, two- and three-bedroom options
-A luxury pool

-A children's playground
-A business lab and other amenities

Former educators open The Horse’s Axe in downtown McKinney.

Ax-throwing venue The Horse’s Axe is now open in Historic Downtown McKinney.
The business offers ax throwing along with pool tables; drinks, including beer, wine, and cider; and snacks. The shop also offers The Horse’s Axe merchandise, including shirts, tumblers, bags, hats, and more.

The venue’s six throwing lanes include games projected on the target to play while ax throwing. The targets are made of end-grain wood, which helps the ax sink further into the target, Pearson said.

Summer Moon Coffee will open its first McKinney location Sept. 30, according to a news release.

Summer Moon Coffee offers iced and hot coffee drinks made with wood-fired coffee beans as well as its signature Moon Milk sweet cream. The coffee shop will also offer cold brew and blended coffee drinks as well as breakfast and lunch food options, according to its website.

McKinney Air Center debuts new fixed-base operator facility.

The new fixed-base operator, or FBO, terminal at McKinney Air Center is now open.
The facility, located at McKinney National Airport, is a “state-of-the-art” terminal offering passenger amenities and a number of services, according to the release. The terminal features:
-A conference room
-A passenger waiting area
-A pilot lounge

The FBO terminal will also offer aircraft fueling and storage, according to the release.

“This new FBO terminal will help us compete with other world-class facilities that are vying for the lucrative dollars generated by the many corporate fleets pouring into Collin County and the larger Dallas area,” McKinney Mayor George Fuller said in the release. “Facilities like this will continue to increase the airport’s value as an economic driver in our region.”

Wing Chow offers chicken wings, fried rice in East McKinney.

The restaurant, owned by Sean Atwood and Joe Chow, offers a variety of dishes, including chicken wings in a variety of housemade sauces, sandwiches, salads, fried rice, lo mein and more, according to its website. Wing Chow also serves desserts, including stuffed churros and locally made ice cream from McKinney ice cream parlor La Real Michoacana #3.

McKinney officials introduce kayak rentals at Towne Lake Park.

Visitors are able to rent the kayaks at the new self-service kiosks using a QR code system through rental app Rent.fun.

There are four kayaks available to rent, the rentals are available daily from sunup to sundown, and each rental includes a paddle and a life jacket, according to the release. The rentals cost $3 to unlock the kiosk and an additional $3 for every 30 minutes they are rented.

McKinney City Council approves rezoning, new housing to spur 380 growth.

The McKinney City Council recently approved a zoning change and a neighborhood replat to help spur new growth in the northwest portion of the city.

The zoning change and neighborhood replat should result in approximately 160 new homes to be built near US 380 and Custer Road.

At a Tuesday McKinney City Council meeting, council members unanimously approved a final replat for the Hidden Lakes neighborhood, spanning almost 50 acres.

Inpower IQ Performance Center to bring customized athletic training to McKinney.

The Inpower IQ Performance Center is the first facility of its kind for Inpower IQ, a Dallas-based athletic technology company.

The roughly 24,000-square-foot athletic center will offer customized athletic training for young athletes as well as adults and athletic professionals, Wilson said. The facility will offer personalized training rather than memberships, and guests can work with a variety of on-site coaches, including personal strength and fitness coaches, as well as nutritionists.

McKinney officials continue neighborhood park refresh initiative.

An initiative by the McKinney Parks and Recreation Department to refresh parks across the city could be complete in the next year, Parks and Recreation Director Michael Kowski said.

The initiative to have no playground equipment older than 15 years at neighborhood parks in McKinney began in 2018. The project has since resulted in the renovation of 16 parks, Kowski said. In that time, there have also been eight new playgrounds added, totaling 24 new playgrounds installed across the city.

McKinney ISD provides HB3 Safety and Security Update.

The Texas legislature passed House Bill 3 (HB 3) during the 88th Regular Legislative Session which requires a minimum of one armed security officer during school hours at District campuses.

Beginning September 5, the McKinney ISD multi-layered security model, as approved by the MISD School Board on Aug. 14, 2023, will be in place.
