This weekend we celebrate Loy Krathong with lots of food, drinks, lights, crafts, and most importantly, with smiling locals and beautiful people from all over the world.
Loy Krathong is a beautiful and culturally significant festival in Thailand, celebrated on the full moon night of the 12th lunar month, usually in November. Participants create small, decorated floats called "krathongs" from banana leaves, flowers, candles, and incense sticks, which they set afloat on water. This act symbolizes letting go of negativity and misfortunes from the past year while making wishes for the future. The festival also honors Phra Mae Khongkha, the goddess of water, by seeking forgiveness for water pollution. Loy Krathong is marked by beautiful illuminations, fireworks, traditional performances, and a sense of unity and reflection among families and communities.
