Benin is home to the longest graffiti wall in Africa—and soon the world (it’s still growing). This 940 meter-long wall of art in Cotonou represents Benin’s storied history and its bright future.

“To create the Benin of the future, we must keep the Benin of the past in our sight,” says Beninese graffiti artist Laurenson Djihouessi .

Local and international graffiti artists helped create this mural that stretches more than one kilometer in Cotonou, Benin’s economic hub and cultural heart.

We just wrapped up another incredible trip to Benin. Our hearts are full, and our souls recharged. From our boat ride through the floating village of Ganvié to witnessing the indescribable Zangbeto Vodoun performance, we experienced so many aspects of what makes Benin unique. We might be biased, but we think Benin has one of the most interesting histories and cultures in all of Africa.
