What do you own a Hilux for if you can't get out and get it dirty. Driving around around the outskirts of our home town after a bit of rain. What a difference 2 days rain makes!!

A nice little spot relatively close to home. We only checked out 4 spots out of 8. They looked good enough for us. No caravans or trailers allowed 🏕

Weekend road trip. Round circuit to Hillston & back. Tested out our new old van. Spent some money in our local small towns to inject a few $$ back into them after covid. Always nice to get away

15/10/2021

Freedom day was Monday for those that are double vaccinated so we are taking full advantage of that. Caravan in tow & we're off!!

Mary Kathleen Mine. The colour of the water in this old radioactive uranium mine is out of this world. Photos just don't do it any justice. I wouldn't swim in it, you'd probably glow in the dark for at least a month afterwards 😂 Do yourself a favour and check it out if you're ever in the Mt Isa area. The mine closed in 1982. It had its own township with grocery store, library, school, olympic size swimming pool etc etc. All that is left of the town today is empty cement slabs where houses and buildings once stood and tar roads that were once streets in the town. Absolutely none of the buildings or houses of the old township still stand. Every single one of them was auctioned off and are now located in Mt Isa and nearby Cloncurry as homes and residences. Also check out this tree. We have not seen this tree anywhere else in all of our travels except for around this mine. Must Google it to see what it is

There is 2 things everyone comes to the NT to see & experience #1 is the culture & some of the best landscapes & natural beauty that you will EVER see in the world and # 2 is for the wildlife - Crocs & Barras. Croc Jumping Tour today did not disappoint. Rick the boat captain did a great commentary & the ladies Deanna & Julia gave us some great photo opportunities. It almost looks like they're smiling, but I tell ya what....I'd never smile at a crocodile

So today we headed up to Karlu Karlu aka The Devil's Marbles. Interesting drive up. Apparently you have to slow down to 100km/hr to go around a bend 😂. Whilst we had a good day checking everything out along the way, including The Tropic of Capricorn, The Big Blackfulla who watches over his community from a hill, & his family who are down on ground level & a little town who had all all dirt football field with big night lights over it so it must still get used. None of the black fullas wear shoes out this way & because it's AFL territory, I guess a football field with no grass & only dirt will do cos there's no tackling involved. However in saying a that, our day ended in a sad & angry way. We went out to The Devil's Marbles for sunset, an extremely sacred spot, many places out there are so sacred, back in the day, only the elders were allowed to go those spots for special ceremonies & that actually includes where the current campground is. For that reason, we are not staying in the campground out there tonight. Blackfullas today still do not go there. We are instead camping at the back of the pub 8kms away. There are signs out there telling people to stick to the walkways & to not climb on the rocks & some spots cameras are not allowed, but we saw ignorance at it's best tonight with people climbing all over the rocks & taking photos. Made us SOOOO angry. Even when we were at Uluru the other day, some parts are so sacred, no photographs are allowed, but arrogant people were still taking photos. We didn't stick around, left pretty quickly after that

Goodbye Alice. This morning we were picked up by Outback Ballooning at out Caravan Park at 5.15am to head out of town for our balloon ride. The rest of the day was spent at the Transport & Kenworth Hall of Fame & generally looking around the town. If you like big trucks, this is the place for you! We leave Alice in the morning, onto our next destination

When you think of Alice Springs, you think heart of Australia, red centre, red dirt & dust, but it's completely the opposite. Today we ventured out to Alice's water holes (not the pub kind lol) Take a look

Today we drove the Mereenie Loop into Hermannsburg to Alice. Although labelled a town, I would call it a community. Again, English is their 2nd language. There are no shops (not even closed down shops), no main street, just an old building that serves as their local supermarket which also has 2 x self serve, tap to pay petrol bowsers. Some streets in the township you're not allowed to go into or even photograph & signs tell you so. Hermannsburg is the birth place of Albert Namatjira. The house he built is still there. His son's artwork is displayed & for sale in the gallery of the local "Historic Precinct" A place open to the public which was their old mission. A refuge & safe haven for the Arranta people back in the violent pioneering days & unlike other missionaries that banned indigenous languages, this one prioritised learning the local language. It was one of the longest running missions in Australia & has since been handed back to the Arranta people who today look after the mission & rely on its tourism to help sustain their community. Well worth a visit if you ever get the chance. Some Arranta ladies were sitting outside with their paintings for sale today when we were there. We went to the supermarket on our way out. A guy in front of us at the checkout had some long thing in his hand. When the cashier scanned it, it scanned at Red Kangaroo Tail $22. $22 WTF!!! Poor fulla went & put it back in the freezer. We'd have liked to have purchased it for him, but didn't want to be offensive as the rules are different up here. Surprisingly the drive into Alice is extremely scenic, surrounded by beautiful mountains & countryside....similar to an American Western

The Kings Canyon rim walk. All we can say is wow. 6.2km. 3 hours. Some of it challenging, some of it quite nice. The start is 500 steep incline on rocks they call steps, half way is a ridiculous amount of really steep steps then just right at the end in the last 500m is another climb up the rocks (just to keep you on your toes). Was it worth it? Absolutely it was! The views from the top are amazing. Proud of us for doing this today. If we can do it, anyone can!

Coober Pedy. The most over rated town in Australia. Was very underwhelmed & keen to get out of there, although in saying that, the Underground Church was pretty amazing. Just beautiful. Not a skerric of grass to be seen. Very dry dusty place. Even the golf course is the only golf course in Australia to not have any green on it at all. Most of the population live underground due to the extreme heat. The photos that you will see with the pipes sticking out of the ground is people's houses. They are like air/ventilation pipes. We stayed in underground accommodation last night & it was lovely. Here are some photos

Day 3. Lake Hart to Coober Pedy. Did the touristy thing around town all day then stayed in an Underground Motel Unit for the night. Went to the Underground Pub. Played some Underground Pokies

Not much to show anyone today. Long boring drive from home to Broken Hill & staying at a rest stop in Olary just past the NSW/SA border town of Cockburn. The adventures begin tomorrow

This day has taken forever to come around but alas it's here & we're on our way

25/04/2021

The FTB team are about to head out on another adventure & this time instead of stashing all of our memories on a hard drive for no-one to see, we're going to try something new. It is afterall, all about making memories & hopefully inspiring our family & friends to get in amongst it too! Watch this space for videos & photos of our journeys
