🌴 Resorts for Spring Break & Winter Break - Book 8-12 months out
- These are some of the most sought-after travel weeks of the year because (1) most schools are closed and (2) there is limited date flexibility.
- Can you still find options 3-6 months out? Of course you can! But you’ll likely end up paying more.
🚢 Cruises - Book 8-12 months out
- Cruise prices are historically lowest when itineraries are first released and increase from there.
- Booking early is not just about the low rates, it’s also about securing your nightly dinner reservation. The main seating (usually around 6pm) fills up first, and while an 8pm second seating might work for older kids and adults, it can be tough to manage with the little ones!
🎢 Disney and Universal - Book 6-8 months out
- Finding good options at these theme park resorts is typically not an issue if you book far enough in advance. Within 6 months, however, availability will decline and you might need to be flexible on dates and / or resort.
- When promotions are released, book early because there are limited rooms at each resort that qualify and the more popular properties sell out quickly!
🌍 International Hotels - Book 6 months out
- Securing that perfect blend of location, comfort, and amenities takes some planning, especially for multi-city international trips. Start planning with your Travel Advisor 7-8 months out with the aim of booking by 6 months along with your airfare!

My family was recently traveling from Newark, NJ, to Bergen, Norway, for our ABD Norway adventure. Our 5pm flight was delayed until 6pm, then 7pm, then 8pm, then ultimately cancelled! 😱
The airline rebooked us on a flight out of Newark the following day which had us arriving in Bergen a full day later than originally planned and also on the SAME DAY our adventure was scheduled to start! If we hadn’t built in that buffer day, we would have missed the welcome dinner and the start of our adventure! 😢
As it happened, we still had plenty of time to explore the city sights and fit in some fun activities the day we arrived, so it worked out in the end! 🇳🇴
