After a semi-early start, we found that none of our intended stops were open at 11. Nor were our backups. We finally fetched up at Lamoreaux Landing, which was open *and* pouring wine!

Deep Root Vineyards -- one of our favorites. Owners Ben & Michelle are just about our favorite people on the wine trail, and they're always trying something new with their wines. The tasting room is open air, and Ben makes wine in the shed behind the barn. If you're nice, he might even let you peek at his set-up.

We had some rainstorms -- and even lost power one night -- but the sunsets more than made up for the inconvenience.

The view from our cottage on Lamoka Lake. Possibly the best location we could have chosen as a basecamp for the trip.

Another nice surprise! We stopped at Standing Stone a few years ago and we surprised to see a yellow school bus the parking lot. As we passed by, we glanced in the back and saw a trash bag full of empty Bud cans.

Um, no.

We pressed on to the tasting room itself, which packed to the gills with frat boys. When we opened the door, a few squeeze aside to make room for us (very gentlemanly!) and drunkenly invited us in.

We did not go in, and -- to be honest -- we've avoided Standing Stone ever since.

But people kept recommending the winery to us, and we finally caved. This time we ventured in on a bus-free day and had a lovely tasting. Afterwards, we bought a bottle of their table wine (the Smokehouse Red, which is very good and an excellent buy) -- and had a picnic on the hill behind the winery.

One of our new finds: Lime Berry on Keuka Lake. It's a small winery making odd, interesting wines -- my favorite kind!

It's owned by Joe & Melissa Carroll, a husband-wife team who are absolutely passionate about what they're doing. Plus the tasting room is located in a old school-house and doubles as an art gallery. What's not to love?

Tuesday was a Keuka day. Started at MacGregor, then into Hammondsport for a lunch at the Village Tavern -- where we split a 12-year-old bottle of Ravines Meritage. It took almost an hour for the wine to open up...but when it did, YUM!

Rasta Ranch! Janis Joplin bottle labels, awards for best jug wine, a winery dog that's half beagle and half Rottweiler (!), and funky memorabilia *everywhere*. Worth a trip, even if you're not planning to try the wine. : )

Spent our first full day on Cayuga Lake. Lovely tastings at Eleven Lakes and Buttonwood, followed by lunch at Thirsty Owl.

There was a ferocious downpour while we were at Buttonwood (inside, fortunately), and afterward big clouds of mist and fog came off the lakes. The mist was impressive on Cayuga, but amazing on Seneca.

Fun With Wine 4.0! We kicked off on Sunday afternoon, with a delicious brunch at Stonecat Cafe. They've brought back my all-time favorite drink -- the Field Soda, with whiskey, ginger syrup, and lots 'o lemon.
