🇳🇱 Day trip idea from Amsterdam 🇳🇱

Visit the beautiful towns of Zaanse Schans, Edam, Volendam and Marken ❤️

I took this 8 hour long guided tour that left from the city centre of Amsterdam and it was amazing! Highly recommend it to anyone visiting Amsterdam 💯

https://www.getyourguide.com/amsterdam-l36/half-day-tour-of-zaanse-schans-volendam-and-marken-t37238/?partner_id=XH6UVCX¤cy=EUR&travel_agent=1&cmp=share_to_earn

We discovered the famous windmill village and the history behind the windmills, we visited a cheese factory and sampled Gouda and Edam cheese from the source 🤤, we even had a clog making demo!

What I loved most about this tour is that the guide walked us through each of the towns and shared so much info and history not only about the towns but also about the Netherlands in general

🇮🇹 PUGLIA 🇮🇹 4 day itinerary & my thoughts about each of the towns 👇🏻

✈️ Flights to Bari
Flights from Malta with Ryanair are usually cheap and the times are perfect for a long weekend, leaving early in the morning and coming back at night

🚊 We traveled everywhere by public transport, mainly trains and a few buses. Very affordable and efficient. I still think that hiring a car would be a great idea especially if you intend to visit in Summer to explore the beaches of Puglia!

🏨 We spent 3 nights, 2 nights in Monopoli and 1 night in Alberobello in a Trullo, just for the experience that you can only get in this town✨ most people opt to stay in Bari but Monopoli is a great base to explore the nearby towns of Polignano a Mare (5mins) Ostuni (50mins), Alberobello (1hr) including Bari (30mins)

Accommodations we stayed in:

- Monopoli: super central, includes breakfast, really nice rooms and friendly staff. Highly recommend it

https://www.booking.com/hotel/it/palazzo-murat-b-amp-b.en.html?aid=8022790&no_rooms=1&group_adults=2

- Alberobello: around 400m away from the main street, affordable in comparison to other trulli’s, very good amenities including coffee, milk, water and biscuits from the region left by the host

https://www.booking.com/hotel/it/trulli-quercus.en.html?aid=8022790&no_rooms=1&group_adults=2

How we spent our days:
- Thursday: morning in Bari (luggage storage in Bari train station), afternoon travel to Monopoli

- Friday: Ostuni in the morning and Polignano a Mare in the afternoon

- Saturday: morning in Monopoli, travel to Alberobello

- Sunday: Travel back to Bari. Optional: travel to Matera

🥰 The best way to explore is walk around the city centre and absorb the slow pace of life 🥰

🤤 The food was a real highlight of the trip! 🤤
Most of the places we ate at were amazing. Specialities from the region are: burrata and straciatella, taralli, focaccia (round, diff. from Liguria), orecchiette, olive oil, panzerotti and primitivo wine

Restaurants 10/10:
- Monopoli: Il Cantinale in city centre and Porto Rosso next to the sea
- Ostuni: Borgo Antico Bistrot (super nice vibe)
- Alberobello: you have to try Lina Focacceria for their focapizza as a snack, so good! Bagia is amazing for cocktails in the square and Trattoria Casa Amatulli
- Bari: La Cantina dello Zio

Best tours:
- Boat tour of the caves of Polignano a mare, especially at sunset time ✨

- Bari walking tour and pasta making (orecchiette) with the nonna’s

💐 Visiting Amsterdam during the tulip season was an experience I recently got to tick off my bucket list 🌷

💐 Keukenhof is know as the most beautiful spring garden in the world! The garden is HUGE, spread over around 32 hectares of land where about 7 million (!!) flower bulbs are planted each year

🌷 You will find an array of flowers, from tulips to hyachints, daffodils, orchids, roses, lilies and more

💐The garden is only open for a short period of time each year. From the end of March until the second week of May. Keukenhof attracts 1.4million visitors per year!

🌷 Due to the short period of time that the garden is open and the amount of visitors it gets each yet, booking in advance is a must!

💐 Keukenhof garden is located around 40 minutes outside of Amsterdam city centre. It’s easy to get there, if you opt to get the entrance ticket that includes the return journey on the shuttle buses that leave the city centre

🌷 Although the garden was FULL of people when I visited, I still think it was totally worth it, it’s just too beautiful to describe, you have to see it for yourself 💕

The picturesque Plaza de Espana in Sevilla ❤️✨🇪🇸

My second time visiting Seville and there is something about the vibe in this city that has me hooked!

🇪🇸 It’s is one of the most popular destinations in Spain and the heart of Andalusia in the South of Spain
🇪🇸 It’s home to some of Spain’s famed traditions like flamenco and bullfighting
🇪🇸 The architecture is beautiful and the city oozes history through it’s quaint neighborhoods, churches and palaces
🇪🇸 It’s the sunniest city in Europe and it only rains on average 80 days per year

It’s the perfect city for a girls trip and it’s well connected to other cities in the region. Follow along on stories.. the journey continues!

Lapland was on my bucketlist ever since I saw the episode of Gordon, Gino and Fred, when they visited Lapland over the festive period! Fast forward a year later and that dream came true ❤️

What if I told you that you don’t have to break the bank to visit this destination? I can assure you that if you plan in advance, especially with regards to flights and accommodations and do some research about different activity providers, you will be saving lots and lots of money!

It’s definitely worth it and you can tick off so many things off the bucketlist in such a unique destination.

Some things you could do:
- Experience polar nights / days
- Cross the Arctic circle
- Meet santa in his home town
- Hunt the aurora borealis (Northern lights)
- Cross country skiing / normal skiing
- Snowshoeing in the forest
- Sleep in an igloo
- Reindeer sleigh rides
- Husky rides
- Snowmobile adventures: 2/3hr proper adventure
- Sauna / ice dip in the lake (my favourite activity!)
- Roast sausages on the open fire
& honestly so much more.. even just being &
witnessing such a landscape is magical!

I’ve spent lots of hours researching before I visited and I’ve combined it all in one travel guide. How to get there, accommodation, the clothing you’ll need for the extreme temperatures, the activities, the cost breakdown and the exact itinerary we followed. This is my absolute passion & I share it all in one document 🫶🏼

2024 is promising to bring the most spectacular northern lights shows the world has seen in two decades! The peak is around the equinox: March & September. This means that Lapland is not just a destination to visit only in December, it really depends on what you want out of your visit!

Now is the best time to start planning your visit for next December / winter. The winter season is Lapland’s peak season and it’s also a very popular destination at the moment, which means accommodation fills up months in advance.

📌 Bruges, Belgium 🇧🇪

Some of the best things to do while in Bruges:

🏰 Visit Bruges Market Square, the heart of the city. Here you’ll find some of the most beautiful buildings of the city. The most prominent is the medieval Belfry Tower & Cloth Hall. Here you’ll also find the colourful guild buildings. In Winter, the square is home to the Bruges Christmas market

🛶 A boat trip on the canal is one of the top things to do in Bruges. This is by far the quickest & easiest way to get a good idea of what the city is about and see some of the nicest parts of it. Boat trips usually take 30 minutes. Normally these tours cannot be pre-booked and have to be paid in cash

🐴 A horse drawn carriage ride is a nice way to get an overview of the most important attractions of Bruges. You can find them at the Market square and there’s no need to pre-book

☕️ Do not miss out on hot chocolate (& chocolate) from the Old Chocolate House!

🍺 Belgians love their beer and the Beer Wall showcases all (500+) Belgian beer

How to get to Bruges:
- You can opt to take the train, which is an 1hr away from Brussels (this might workout cheaper when visiting during the weekend)

- Or on a guided tour. This one leaves from Brussels and stops in Bruges as well as Ghent. This is probably the best value-for-money option you will find! Works out even cheaper than the train. Link:

Paris is always a good idea 🇫🇷

December is a great time to visit, Christmas markets dot the city and the vibe is just amazing around this time of year ✨

If you’re visiting in December, make sure you book restaurants/ cafes in advance, as well as tickets to the main attractions. It is a very busy period and you don’t want to miss out just because you didn’t plan in advance

My favourite things to do:
✨ Wander around the biggest Christmas market in Jardin des Tuileries

✨ Hot chocolate from Angelina, right across Jardin des Tuileries. Don’t miss it! Make sure to book in advance

✨ & can you visit Paris and not go to the Louvre? It’s spectacular. Make sure you get your tickets well in advance, they sell out quick! Some dates in December are already sold out

Link: https://www.getyourguide.com/paris-l16/louvre-museum-skip-the-line-entrance-ticket-t145779/?partner_id=XH6UVCX&cmp=CL

✨ Take in the views from the Eiffel tower. Again, you’ll need to get your tickets well in advance, no matter when you visit!

Link: https://www.getyourguide.com/paris-l16/paris-eiffel-tower-summit-or-second-floor-access-t403969/?partner_id=XH6UVCX&cmp=CL

✨ Don’t miss Montmartre, the vibe is unmatched! I’d say this was my favourite area in Paris and if you can, watch the sun set from Montmartre.. it is just 😍

✨ Visit Galeries Lafayette and the unique 21 meter high Christmas tree that sits in the heart of the shopping mall

✨ Macaroons from Laduree are a must

✨ You have to try French onion soup whilst people watching at one of the beautiful outdoor terraces

✨ Visit the area around the Notre Dame and take a scenic boat ride on the Seine. You can’t go wrong with dinner on the Seine to celebrate a special occasion

Link: https://www.getyourguide.com/paris-l16/paris-sightseeing-cruise-on-the-seine-with-4-course-dinner-t465480/?partner_id=XH6UVCX¤cy=EUR&travel_agent=1&cmp=share_to_earn

✨ Watch a cabaret show at the Moulin Rouge, you will not be disappointed!

There’s just so much to do in Paris 😍 I can’t wait to go back!

Have you ever seen people dipping into a freezing hole of water in winter, and wondered what exactly is this activity and why they would do that?

This a popular activity in Finland, where one can visit a designated ice swimming spot, called ‘avanto’.

The process:
- Enter the sauna for 15mins
- Dip into the freezing water
- & repeat

The Finns believe that there are several health benefits of ice swimming. Including boosting the immune system, improving blood circulation and reduces stress.

This was such an exhilarating experience and it provided such a boost of energy and a feeling of accomplishment, especially for us, coming from such a warm climate. The temperature outside was -16 degrees!

One of my favourite experiences ever! Would you do it?

If you’re heading to Lapland this Winter, you have to check out my Lapland travel guide. It’s full of useful information, including:

- The weather and the clothing you’ll need to take with you
- Overnight train from Helsinki to Lapland and tips for a comfortable journey
- Polar nights and day light hours
- The northern lights
- All the activities we suggest including: reindeer sleigh ride, snowmobile safaris, Santa village, snowman world, ice swimming, northern lights hunting, cross country skiing, snowshoeing & more
- Cost breakdown & how you can save lots of money
- & so much more.

Cinque Terre 📸 travel guide & travel itinerary🇮🇹

Cinque Terre is made up of 5 seaside villages on the Italian riviera. Each of the five towns are characterised by colourful houses, vineyards on top of steep terraces and harbors filled with fishing boats & restaurants serving fresh seafood and other Ligurian specialities.

The Sentiero Azzurro hiking trail links the 5 villages and offer sweeping sea views. If you’re not into hiking, the train also connects the villages in just a few minutes.

The Cinque Terre is a national park and you’ll need to purchase the Cinque Terre card to enter. This will cover the train rides and/or access to the hiking trail.

The best time to visit is between April and October. July and August will be the busiest so keep this in mind when planning your visit. Accommodation are mostly guesthouses & B&Bs which tend to fill up quick.

2-3 days is the perfect amount of time to spend in the Cinque Terre and it’s a cheap getaway. It can also be done as a day trip.

In my Cinque Terre travel guide, I cover all you need to know to plan your visit, including:
- when to visit
- the Cinque Terre cards & link to purchase in advance
- where to stay
- the best activities, viewpoints, beaches & restaurants
- if you’re a foodie, then you’d be happy to know that there is a section dedicated about the traditional food & street food you should try.
- it also includes all the info you’ll need to hike the blue trail and;
- a 3 day itinerary you could follow.

Save time researching, all of this information is combined in one easy to follow document for only €3.99 and can be purchased through the following link:

06/09/2023

Multi-day hiking & camping is a practice of minamalism. It’s not a question of ‘what can I take?’ but more of ‘what can I live without?’
Less is really more! 🙌🏻

The rule you don’t want to break: keeping the weight as low as possible. The heavier, the backpack is the more uncomfortable the journey is.

My Deuter backpack is a 40+10 litre backpack. The 10 litre pack can be used or removed rather than a fixed 50ltr. The main advantage of this:
✔️ I didn’t have to check-in my luggage. I could take the 40 litre pack as hand luggage on the plane and the 10 litre pack as a small bag.
⚖️ My backpack weighed 1.6kgs and including everything else, 9kgs. I think I did pretty well with the weight and it was comfortable for me.
🙌🏻 This wouldn’t have been possible without the right gear. A two person tent can weigh as little as 1.6kg and as heavy as 4kg. EVERYTHING, can be purchased lightweight. You just have to do the research. Weight distribution plays a big part too.

What I packed for the week:
- Sleeping gear: sleeping mat, sleeping bag & pillow. Camp not included in the 9kgs weight since I didn’t carry it but weighs 1.6kgs. The sleeping bag was the heaviest item in my pack, it weighed 1.5kgs.
- Campsite essentials: a ground chair, a headtorch, a pair of flip flops, small microfibre cloth & a few pegs - literal essentials!
- Cooking kit: a good quality burner, one pot (inside: a bowl, foldable cutlery + tea & dehydrated milk in a small container) & a mug.
- Packing cube 1: lower body
- Packing cube 2: upper body
Focused on having two hiking outfits and a clean outfit that I wore in the evening at the campsite.
- 1 big towel
- A small pocket for easy reach for phone charger, adapter, power bank and charger.
- A small pocket for my liquids & hairbrush. The multipurpose wash is a great 3 in 1 to minimise the weight.
- First aid kit including pain killers, compeed, hydrocortisone & water purifying tablets.
- Other essentials we kept in handy: our waterproofs & wind breakers and trekking poles. Life savers!

We were blessed with great weather but nonetheless, were prepared for all kinds of weather.

Do you enjoy packing for a trip?

I’m curious, which piece of gear you can’t go without? 🤔

We’ve been back for a week now & it was a pretty busy week! Rounding up of the last two days 👇🏻

🥾 Thursday was our last hiking day and it took us from Courmayeur to Rifugio Bonatti. This part of the TMB is famous for it’s balcony views of peaks and glaciers. It was indeed breathtaking 😍

🚊 On Friday, we started making our way down to the city of Turin since, our flight was very early on Saturday morning. The journey from Courmayeur to Turin took about 3.5hours.

🗺️ We checked in to the first hotel of the stay! We had a bed and a private shower 🥹. We explored the city for a bit, ate traditional Piedmont cuisine & drank some local wine from a Piola. We were pleasantly surprised at how cheap it was to eat in Turin!

🍷 Not going to lie, after 6 days full of adventure, being back in a big city felt underwhelming. The food was definitely the highlight of our time in Turin.

🍽️ If you’re ever in Turin: You’ll want to eat at Piola da Canci & gelateria la Romana 🤤

& that’s a wrap of what has been a great week! I know for a fact that I want to return 🫶🏼

📍Hobo Camping in Val Veny, Courmayeur 🇮🇹

After 3 big days on the TMB, we decided to take a rest day in Courmayeur and we couldn’t have chosen a better place to do so!

🏕️ We washed & dried our clothes, this was a NEED at this point.
🏕️ We spoke with lots of different people we met on the trail, turns out it’s a popular spot to take a rest day at.
🏕️ We ate some of our favourite food on the trail. The foccaccias were so good!
🏕️ We played uno, the card game, on repeat.
🏕️ We cooked our first dinner.
🏕️ We up by the fire.
🏕️ & woke up to this amazing mountain view!

It’s perfect for families too, there’s lots of open space and aside from camping, there are also chalets and yurts that can be hired for more of a glamping experience. There’s a mini market, a bar, a pool, a whirlpool bath, an area with hammocks and daily yoga sessions too ☺️

Bonus:
🚗 It’s only an hour and a half away from Turin airport by car.
🚍 It’s close proximity to Courmayeur. A free shuttle bus runs from 7am until 7:30pm from just outside the campsite.
💶 It’s very budget friendly.
🫶🏼 It would make a great, relaxing weekend away with family & friends in nature.

Recap of day 3 on the TMB 🥾⛰️ - the toughest one yet!

🇮🇹 In the first picture, I’m sitting at the top of Col de la Seigne at 2,516, which also happens to mark the border between France & Italy! We’ve crossed the border on foot 🤩

🥾 We covered a little over 20kms with an elevation gain of 685m and a whooping elevation loss of 1,760m. Comparing day 2’s constant climb with day 3’s constant descent, I can say, I much prefer going uphill than downhill. The impact on the feet going downhill for that long is mad 🤯

🌞 Again, the weather was sunny, beautiful blue skies and calm conditions. Except on Col de la Seigne, it was windy and cool.

⌚️ We walked for 6hrs 45mins, it took us longer with stops along the way including lunch.

⛰️ Again, the views were breathtaking, especially at the top of Col de la Seigne, with stunning views of the Mont Blanc massif.

🏕️ Wild camping is not allowed in Italy, so we had to walk a part of stage 4, down Val Veny. This meant we arrived to camp at around 8pm. We couldn’t be happier to find hot showers and focaccias! The campsite was the best one yet, I’ll post about it tomorrow ☺️

🫶🏼 My takeaway from the day: I love hiking & being outdoors because I learn more about myself than anywhere else. I can be present, it’s a matter of staying mentally focused and positive. To put one foot in front of the other, despite how tired you feel and how much you question yourself by the end. Everything else that happens after feels so easy in comparison.

📝 Add this hike to your bucketlist if you’re into hiking, mountains & the outdoors. It’s nothing short of amazing!

Day 2 on the TMB 🥾⛰️

🇫🇷 The trail took us from Les Contamines to Col de la Croix du Bonhomme, still in France.

🥾 We covered a distance of 10.75kms with an elevation gain of 1,345m. Higher than the day before in less kms covered. I thought the day before was steep, this stage felt like a constant climb! My hip flexors were dead by the end of it.

🌞 The weather was beautiful, but hot. At one point, it reached 33 degrees. Of course, I got sunburnt 🤣

⌚️ We walked for 5hrs 40mins, it took us around 9 hours considering breakfast, lunch & other breaks.

⛰️ The views, magnificent! Continuously having to remind myself to soak it all in. The people we shared the trail with were great too!

🛖 Refuge du Col de la Croix du Bonhomme constantly gets a bad rep. Granted, there’s a lot of flies, there are no toilets or showers and the food is not the best I’ve ever had BUT they’ve accepted us for dinner even though we were not staying there and we could rest our very tired legs until. I never felt so overwhelmed and grateful in my life!

🏕️ We pitched tent at 2,443m high. An experience in itself, sleeping so high up in the mountains in a tent. Only because the weather was perfect, otherwise this would not have been possible.

🐐 We’ve spotted a large group of alpine Ibex, a species of wild mountain goats that live in the European Alps.

🫶🏼 My take away from this day: spending a day in the mountains, makes you appreciative of all the things we take for granted everyday. Thankful for shelter and food, nothing else really mattered. Despite the pain, the feeling of satisfaction at the end of the day is indescribable, if you know, you know!
