Lighting over the Quiver tree forest near Keetmanshoop.

An image I took many years ago, but it still remains one of my favourite trips as most of the time we go here to photograph the stars however on this trip we got lightning and rain!

Pygmy Falcon - One of my favourite little raptors in Namibia.

Did you know - it is the only species placed in the genus Polihierax and its the smallest bird of prey on the African continent?

The fact that the Quiver tree is also in flower is an added bonus!

Kolmanskop - Our Namibian ghost town.

A photographers delight.

I got special permits allowing myself and my photography group access to the area for sunset. It’s a privilege being able to explore this wonderful site with no one else around.

Definitely one of the most photogenic animals in Namibia.

Traveling is such an awesome experience…

Blurry sunsets make me think about how quickly trips pass … take time to feel the moment, sit quietly away from everyone, re connect with nature, stare at the stars, close your eyes and use your other senses. Not just your ears but your smell, your touch, take your shoes off and put your feet in the sand … It’s something that the majority of humanity has become completely detached from. It’s easy to be immersed in the choas of city life …it’s not easy to let go and just RELAX!

Chest-nut banded plover reflection.

I took this photograph some years ago while working up on the north coast of Namibia.
The birds got rather used to me sitting on the edge of the pan with my camera every evening .
The air stillness made for wonderful photographic opportunities.

I'm heading back out on tour today, first stop will be Windhoek and then south down to the Sossusvlei.
Hoping I will be lucky enough to connect with these wonderful creatures again. Bat eared foxes are amazing animals - Did you know those massive ears of theirs allow them to hear a termite almost 1 meter underground. CRAZY!

Oh and on a side note, I need pictures of a new Spider I found in the area...so keep an eye out here and see if I can find it again.

It is not common knowledge but Namibia is home to a huge variety of Gecko's, some of which are not only completely endemic to Namibia but totally unique on our planet - think about that for a moment.

Such as this Web Footed gecko (Pachydactylus Sp), this species has sand shoes instead of snow shoes. Found only in the Namib sand sea they are the only Gecko species to have all four of their feet webbed, comes in handy (Ahem) when one lives in a huge sandpit.

They also glow in the dark, but I would have to show you that in person as a photograph doesn't do it justice.

Its amazing what is going on around you if you just take the time to stop and look.

This is a Namib Desert dune ant (Camponotus sp), these ants are endemic to the Namib sand sea and have won the battle over millions of years to become the dominant Ant species in the southern Namib.
Evolution at its finest!

IT IS ALWAYS worth getting up before dawn when you are in the bush.

The colours are softer and you never know who might be at the waterhole quenching their thirst before the daytime crowds arrive!

Being able to sit in a vehicle and photograph Elephants that are literally 20 feet from you is a privilege that is not afforded to many people.
I had been sitting for around 25 minutes while he slowly made his way towards us! He was very obliging and was not at all bothered about being in such close proximity to the vehicle.
An incredible sighting and definitely a highlight for me.

Lilac - Breasted roller, bird lover or not, you cant help but admire the colours on this incredible creature.

They are found throughout Southern Africa and are often seen perched on the roadside hoping for a tasty snack to appear.

Etosha national park in the middle of the dry season is an inhospitable place, life congregates around the water holes and this soon turns into an all you can eat buffet for the carnivores.

I've used this image as my cover photo as I think it encompasses what my guests love about Africa - Wildlife and the sheer mass of it.
