18 April - The Minaret of Jam soars at 65m tall. A UNESCO world treasure and heritage site, it was built around 1190 entirely of baked bricks and is famous for its intricate brick, stucco, and glazed tile decoration, which consists of alternating bands of Kufic and Naskhi calligraphy.
This graceful soaring structure is one of the few well-preserved monuments representing the exceptional artistic creativity and mastery of structural engineering of the time.
Its architecture and ornamentation are outstanding from the point of view of art history, fusing elements from earlier developments in the region in an exceptional way and exerting a strong influence on later architecture in the region.
The Minaret of Jam is an outstanding example of the architecture and ornamentation of the Islamic period in Central Asia and played a significant role in their further dissemination. UNESCO has supported studies and measures to protect the Minaret and its environs.
