Did you know that you can get into Mexico through Big Bend National Park? Swipe --> to see the little boat that you can ride into Boquillas. This town is so cute, and its businesses surround people coming in through the border. They have restaurants and lots of locally made souvenirs to purchase (where vic got her cute hat!)

Things to know:
1. you need a passport to get back through the border
2. bring cash: tip the boat driver, the tour guide, or the people manning the donkeys or cars you can ride into town - this money is what drives the people of the town so it is worth while!
3. check the park website to ensure that the port of entry is open.

Bear Lake Trail in is not too hard of a trail, and you can choose how far you go, as 3 of the lakes are off of the same main trail. Vic did choose to use her hiking poles for most of it, as this kept cadence and balance and was perfect for when we hit a icey patch!

The lakes within Rocky Mountain national park are dreamy!
Start off with Bear lake which is not far from the trailhead, turn around and then head towards the other lakes. Nymph lake, dream lake and emerald lake are all off the same main hiking trail. Guess which lake is in this picture!
In theory it is an hour each way, however with a stop at dream lake for lunch and emarald lake to catch the views it took us about 2 hours each way.
We couldn't go to lake haiyaha due to snow/ice. Which surprised me since it was July!

On all our trips to Puerto Rico we have stayed near old San Juan, but going to Rincon was so fun! It is 2.5 hours away from the airport and is where the Carribean Sea and Atlantic meet. We recommend renting a car, but you can try to get an Uber or even fly to the Aguadilla airport. The road trip is our recommended method - you drive through so many towns and can drive along the coast! And when you get there you can see the most beautiful sunsets!

All our friends raved about the food in Puerto Rico and we can’t agree more.
Swipe 👉 some of our favs:
1. Mofongo: mashed plantains formed into a dome or a bowl and stuffed or topped with a protein.
2. Arroz Mamposteao: rice with beans, bacon onions, peppers, and sometimes even plantains.
3. Appetizers: acapuria, queso frito, zurillos
4. Ceviche: served with mashed plantain chips

When at the beach, you have to have ceviche, because trust me its as fresh as it gets. In Puerto Rico Ceviche is most always service with "tostones" which are plaintains, smashed, and fried into what ends up essentially into a large chip (you can also get these frozen at Trader Joes!). Delicioso!! Check out our latest blog post with our favorit places to go whenever we are in Puerto Rico.

Who doesn't love a good date night? I mean when on vacation every night is a date night and we always love to enjoy the local foods. Most places we go to when in Puerto Rico are on the beach, but one of the places we love actually overlooks the street. This makes for good people watching while eating some delicious puerto rican food and drinking wine. You just can't go wrong.

Charleston wine country - similar to Texas wine country in that its mostly a blend of grapes. The hostess was super knowledgable in the wines, and we even got to sample some of their flavored mead - and let me tell you if youre not here for the wines you are HERE for the meade. Highly recommend doing the tipsy tour in Charleston, where you get to stop at a winery, brewery, and distillery.

We loved the little airbnb we stayed at not too far from where we went hiking in Ouachita Forest. The place was nestled in the middle of nowhere (literally, barely a drive way) with some land, a creek it was the perfect spot to really disconnect and recharge.

Just under 2 hours away from Hot Springs you can check out Ouachita National Forest.

So wild that this little town is build off of the National Park. Just nestled behind the main street where there is Bathhouse Row, restaurants, Superior Bathhouse Brewery, and shopping. Hot Springs is a perfect town for a quick weekend getaway!

Sometimes I totally forget that Arkansas is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from us here in Dallas. And it has so much to offer! Our first trip to Arkansas together included a stop in Hot Springs. It is such a quaint little town, very walkable - we stayed at the Embassy Suites and would just walk over to the main street.

Things to do in Hot Springs:
1. Hot Springs National Park (obvi): the national park is right off of the main town center. In the first picture you see us at the top of the scenic loop trail. We were hoping to go up the tower but the line was really long and we were hot and hungry
2. Bath Houses: Book in advance!! We were iffy when we went because it was the height of the pandemic (year 1), but next time we go we will definitely give one of these places a try so we can soak up in some of that natural thermal water.
3. Superior Bathhouse Brewery: Enjoy some local brews - we even took some beer in growlers with us when heading out to Ouichita Forest!

At Enchanted Rock park, you have a rock that is pretty straightforward to go up and down, but you can also go around it. When we went, we're pretty sure we took the long way round. Thank goodness for maps because signage was sparse! Want to know more about Enchanted Rock? Check out our at the

Enchanted Rock is a small state park in Texas, not too far from San Antonio. The "rock" part is a massive pink granite dome (althought it doesnt look pink on the outside!) and from the top you look around and feel like. you're on top of the world! See our blog ( ) for more details on this little gem!

Since the start of this Covid pandemic, parks have been using a ticket reservation system, so they can monitor the crowds, and it seems like its a system thats going to stick as it helps everybody plan ahead! Enchanted Rocks does also require this system, so plan ahead!

Beautiful day for a winery in the heart of Texas. Yes, Texas does have some wines. Some are blended Texas and California grape to round them off. Our FAVORITE wineries are: Becker and Ron Yates. But there are so many other options that we can't wait to go back to. Whats your go to wine? Ever tried any Texas wines?

Santa Elena Canyon in Big Bend National Park is one of the iconic hikes everyone who visits Big Bend wants to do. The main section of the hike that most people will complete is just 1.5 miles and is relatively easy except for the first section which is you swipe to the second photo can see Victoria hiking up the steep ramps that get you to the top.

Overall is you are in semi decent shape and can walk up 2-3 flight of stairs we see no issue in you completing this hike.

After the first part of straight paved ramps it is relatively flat the entire way to the river bed while you follow the river on the left hand side.

The entire path after the ramps is mostly sand with some rocky parts but it is a beautiful hike with towering walls all around you.

At the end you do run into the river and if you are brave you can continue on so we highly recommend either water shoes or a towel to clean your feet since it is extremely muddy!

Have you ever done the Santa Elena hike?

While we are on our Texas National Park kick still reliving our Big Bend trip from 2 weeks ago we cannot resist a to one of Gus's favorite parks in the U.S. but also the other National Par in Texas, Guadalupe Mountains National Park!

The big highlight of this park and what draws most people to is, is the fact that it is the highest point and summit in the entire state! The hike up is not joke and depending on how fit you are can take up to 6 hours to knock out the 8 miles to the summit.

Stay tune for a detailed post on Guadalupe Mountains and all the fun things to do there!

Big Bend National Park is located in far (far) West TX. The Rio Grande River runs along the border of the park, which also happens to be the border to Mexico. Fun Fact: The park actually gets its name because the Rio Grande makes a turn in this area and forms a big bend.

A couple weeks ago we went on a loooong roadtrip. And didn't even leave TX! You guessed it, we went down to big bend. And I discovered that there are so many different cacti. And also even if you don't touch them they can still get you! Look out this week for more things to see around this area besides succulents.

Natural heat just abounds in Iceland, despite it being a cold country! There is even these natural pools in a Canyon, where we were lucky enough to take a group tour to from our hotel in Husafell. The pools are inspired by those made by the Vikings hundreds of years ago, to blend seamlessly with the environment. The pools get up to 106F, but there is a cold walk from the changing rooms (swipe for pictures). 10/10 recommend this hidden gem!

On our way to the hiking spot, the guide told us a little bit about the history of the area. We also got to see a waterfall (pop by the feed tomorrow for waterfall wednesday to check it out!)
