Have you ever heard of John Butterfield's mail company that ran through the Central Valley?

"Before the Transcontinental railroad, getting the mail from the east coast to California took a long time. That changed in 1857. That's when John Butterfield of won a $600,000 a year contract to operate a revolutionary new overland mail line. Butterfield's company took a route right through the San Joaquin Valley."

Traces of the old stagecoach route can still be found in Central Valley communities today.

This event will be mostly self-guided, with multiple staff and volunteer docents along the trail to share information and guide you up the hill. RSVPS are not required, but do help speed up the check in process so you can get onto the hill faster!

Today is spontaneous picture day. 📸 This is the view atop Beetle Rock, one of the first major trails that you will see heading into the sequoias.

Beetle Rock is right across the road from the Giant Forest Museum in the Sequoia National Park. Not only can you see across the valley from this rock, but you can also enjoy a paved walkway that takes you through the forest. 🌲
