Home School Getaway - All Home School Families have the opportunity and flexibility to do school elsewhere. Though, like me, your weeks can be filled with other activities, clubs, you or a spouse working in addition to teaching, maybe a co-op or campus day etc. Yes, I suppose when we can give notice and put on hold our weekly commitments or get a break in the routine - we can then travel. How I ho
pe you'll find a way to break free and embrace the flexibility to school anywhere!
***Special Nightly Discount to Home School Families***. I invite you to take one to two weeks and learn all there is to learn about our National Parks (history of Roosevelt's founding of the parks, science and geology found in our canyons of southern Utah and northern Arizona, literature and writing, math in calculating trip costs, geography, exercise with hiking, and so much more).
***National Parks Annual Pass is offered free to 4th grade age students and/or teachers (obtained in advance)***. An awesome home school consultant and dear friend, Christy Faith on Tik Tok, suggested a unit study and pointed me towards Jessica Waldock's website. You can leave as much of your regular curriculum behind as you want and pick up this curriculum from Day 1. The Traveling through the Parks unit study was written by Jessica Waldock of www.thewaldockway.com. She incorporates so many ideas and resources, which I can provide in advance of your stay or answer questions you might have. Her unit uses one required text, Lonely Planet Kids America’s National Parks, which I have three copies available for your use. The book gives a beautiful, two-three page background on each park. Unit Study activity sheets correspond to it. I've created three student binders per park and made the "fact finding" sheets put in sheet protectors for the use of a dry erase marker. I couldn't print every single page. From what you read or watch in her you tube QR links on each park, your child has at least three different ways to demonstrate what they learned about the park that are already printed and ready for you to use and take home in my binders called "Products of Learning". There is a whole unit on President Roosevelt and an additional activity with two books "Who Pooped in the Park?". The required text does not take a Biblical worldview on creation or the formation of the canyons. Each of the National Parks Visitor Centers does not either. However, Answers in Genesis and others have wonderful resources that I own and/or will be offering at the chalet or pointing you towards if you need additional resources and request them. I highlight the four closest parks to my chalet: Zion National Park, Bryce Canyon, Capitol Reef (2.75 hrs. northeast), Grand Canyon - North Rim (2.5 hrs. south). We are centrally located on Cedar Mountain - in the Pines and Aspen at 8,100 ft., equally 53 minutes between Zion and Bryce. To our north, we have Brian Head Ski resort in the winter for skiing and tubing just 45 minutes away or in the summer it is popular for mountain biking. Our chalet has wonderful Wifi and areas for you and your spouse to work and teach your family. A printer can be provided for your use that will air print if you need it. We had to work from the chalet during our vacation rental set up last year. The kids had some online classes last year. We were just out in October 2022 for 11 days, we just had to take a break from our regular learning and enjoy the parks and time with out of state family, but the kids loved playing some of the car games on our longer drive to Capitol Reef which we were able to do in one full day. Shoot me an email, [email protected] or give me a call, I'd be happy to talk about the area and possibility of you booking a stay at Canyon Country Chalet as your home base for visiting the National Parks. Enjoy your day, enjoy your children!
