I was passing through Citra, Florida and could not resist this cute fruit stand. In addition to bags of really lovely citrus fruit, The Orange Shop had the type of delightfully kitschy souvenirs that I remember from my childhood, like these shell creatures, potholders, and rubbery coin purses. I was also tickled that they had a piece of equipment made by Datsun. It all made me smile!

If you are driving to Disney World, you might enjoy a stop at The Old Sugar Mill restaurant in Ponce De Leon State Park about an hour or so north of Orlando. You’ll pay $6 per car to get into the park and $8.99 per adult / $5.99 per child for all-you-care-to-eat pancakes, and you can add meats, potatoes or toppings for the pancakes at an additional cost. The setting is charming. They have gluten-free pancake batter available, but don’t have a designated gluten-free griddle. You’ll want to check the hours; they were open until 4pm on the day we went. You can join the waitlist on their website. I’ll include more photos in the comments.

Today was so cold🥶 in Florida, which is the ideal for heading about an hour north of Orlando to see manatees at Blue Springs State Park. The spring water is a consistent 72° so hundreds of manatees head there when the temperature go below that. There are only about 5000 manatees in North America and just under 800 of them were at Blue Springs today. It was a truly incredible experience. We also took the boat tour where we saw lots of beautiful scenery, beautiful birds, and even a few very chilly alligators. I’d love to tell you all about it!

Who is thinking about Disney World this summer?

Disney just announced a free dining plan offer for summer 2025! You can get a free dining plan when you book a package that includes at least 3 nights at a Disney hotel, tickets with the Park Hopper option, and no other discounts applied.

The offer is good for most arrivals May 27–June 26 and July 7–August 6, 2025. Booking starts January 2, but if you’re interested, let us know— we can help hold a reservation for you as soon as it opens!

This can be a great way to stretch your budget while enjoying some amazing meals in the parks. What do you think? Would free dining tip the scales for you?

How popular is the Grinch meet & greet at Universal Orlando? Lines can be hours long. The park is open for another 45-minutes, but they’re not letting anyone join the line. This is just 1 reason I think the Grinch character breakfast is worth every penny.

Have you ever noticed these stylized luminarias that Disney’s Animal Kingdom uses in their holiday decorations? We were wondering a bit about the history of luminarias today and here is what google taught us:

“The history of luminarias, or farolitos, is a combination of traditions from Spain, Mexico, and the Pueblos of New Mexico:

Origins in Mexico:The tradition of lighting bonfires to guide people to Midnight Mass on the final night of Las Posadas dates back to 16th century Mexico.
• Spanish colonization:Spanish missionaries brought the tradition to the Pueblos of New Mexico.
• Chinese lanterns:In the early 19th century, settlers on the Santa Fe Trail began using Chinese paper lanterns to light their entranceways.
• Paper sacks:When Chinese lanterns became too expensive, people began making their own lanterns out of paper sacks. • Bonfires to paper lanternsThe early luminarias were bonfires of crisscrossed piñon branches, but as paper became more widely available, they evolved into the paper lanterns we know today.
• Symbolism:In New Mexican Catholic traditions, luminarias are lit on Christmas Eve to symbolize guiding the Holy Family on their journey to Bethlehem.
