Toxic Waste - River Investigation
Polmadie Burn is an Ancient Waterway in Glasgow's South Side - Known as Jennys Burn it is situated between Shawfield and Oatlands.
Hidden from the public between a construction site and a busy road, the point of which the Toxic Waste travels below the ground and into the Burn then into the River Clyde.
This is a detrimental environmental issue that has lasted generations, now becoming historic in essence as it dates back to the Chemical Works of J&J Whites of Shawfield.
The large volumes and varieties of harmful chemicals used in the Shawfield works resulted in huge amounts of toxic waste to be disposed of. This waste included the highly carcenogenic hexavalent chromium, or Chromium VI. If you’ve ever seen that Julia Roberts movie Erin Brokovich, it’s the same material that she discovered had been illegally dumped by the company, Pacific Gas & Electric.

The cormorant is a large and conspicuous water bird that can live in either marine or freshwater habitats. It has an almost primitive appearance with a long thick neck that makes it appear almost reptilian.
The sub-species of cormorant most commonly seen in Scotland is Phalacrocorax carbo carbo the ‘Great cormorant’ or ‘Atlantic great cormorant’. It is the largest of all living cormorant species in Europe.

Inside Partick Central Station
Did You Know?
That Benalder Street Bridge in Partick is partially being held up by Victorian Railway Pillars?
Opened in 1896 and Closed in 1964
This Victorian Railway Station had an above ground Station House with a Stairwell taking the public down into the Below Ground Platforms - The Public would have the opportunity to destress in this Station as it ran along the beautiful River Kelvin, with its flowing waters and Bird songs this would have been more like an Oasis compared to today's Train Stations - Serenity would have been in abundance as the Steam Train came rattling along the Railway line between Dumbarton and Stobcross.
