I can see why there is a backlash against tourists. We traveled to Nice, France and Rome in May and I could not believe the lines to main attractions. Locals main concern in Europe is gentrification where short-term property rentals are pushing residents out of their residences due to high rents and because the residence is now being used as a business. Oftentimes these rentals are owned by someone in another country.

Furthermore, many shops and restaurants are geared toward tourists selling souvenirs and trinkets instead of markets to purchase food and home goods.

It’s a catch 22. No tourists, poorer economy. I don’t think tourism will ever stop but will become more expensive for the tourist.

My personal opinion on why I think there are more tourists in general is demographics. Many people work remotely giving them the freedom to change locales and many young people are foregoing or delaying having a family.

I suppose using sq**rt guns is a way to get someone’s attention.

One of my favorite photos taken at the Colosseum in Rome, Italy. We happened upon this view by chance. I often watch what camera shots other people are taking and get ideas to take the same shot.

On the evening of 14 July 2016, a terrorist attack by a 19-ton cargo truck was deliberately driven into crowds of people celebrating Bastille Day on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice, France, resulting in the deaths of 86 people and the injury of 434 others. This monument was dedicated to this event. I remember when this happened and it hit home because I had recently visited Nice with my son's history class and walked on the same sea walk.

I did not know that Timberline Lodge at Mt. Hood had a pool. I have eaten at their restaurant but have never stayed there. I like skiiing on Mt. Hood and since it was fairly close we always made it a day trip.

Timberline Lodge has announced the reopening of its newly remodeled pool and hot tub.
