Seagulls can drink either freshwater or saltwater, though they prefer freshwater. They have supraorbital glands (also called nasal or salt glands) which removes salt from the bloodstream.

River gulls also live in my town, I used to see them as I ran along the Sava River. In this picture are two decent seagulls that keep a social distance.
