What is Vedanta and why is it so pushed in Sanatana Dharma?
Vedanta is Philosophy and more specifically the philosophy of an understanding around a certain understanding of the foundational scriptures / truths given by the Divine for us to exist in a more conscious pure state.
There are a few fundamental understandings:
1 - We are the Soul the Atma and the soul is encased inside this body, and through our relation with the material existence the soul is either completely shining through or is covered by the ego and layers of Maya and we exist away from our truth, this truth
2 - Our Souls go through a cycle of birth and death as we free ourselves (The Soul) from this sheath we put over ourselves with our choices in life and how we exist
3 - The Atma / Soul is always in Union with the Divine and there is never a moment it is not, and once we free ourselves from the Karma of our actions in life, we allow this truth to shine through.
There are a few more fundamental givens however this is where Vedanta comes in, and from this point an understanding comes in from the point of view from either a Guru or a teacher based on their realisation of the Divine or understanding based off of teachings they have studied and are now teaching. The teachings are generally aligned so you follow a certain path or Guru in life.
For a Guru / Master who has realised the freedom and greatness of the Soul, to impart teachings/understandings/knowledge is always a bitter-sweet experience. The infinite has to be confined to a finite understanding so the minds of the people can maybe practice to the point of going to the infinite. How to give someone the true beauty of a grain of sugar with writings in a book?
For someone who is teaching the teachings of course is always only limited by the level of depth they have dived into the infinite, not how many scriptures or pages etc they can recite. That is the same as a 5 Star Micheline chef vs someone who has memorised all the cookbooks in the world and is reciting them up to you.
This is the beauty of Kriya Yoga and the grace of Mahavatar Babaji, He is personally placing that grain of sugar in your mouth and allowing you to experience its truth. He is saying go beyond the teachings and fully experience the true nature of the Soul the Atma in this life, return to the Source and whether you believe this Vedanta or that Vedanta becomes irrelevant, Kriya Yoga is 99% practice/experience and 1% theory as the Divine union with the Atma is 100% experience.
