The Big 5 was a term coined by the hunters of old, they were the 5 most difficult and dangerous animals to hunt on foot. Lion, Elephant, Rhinoceros, Leopard and African Buffalo.
Today we still use the term on our Safaris, not for hunting but as the 5 most amazing animals of the African wilds to sight. Today we shoot them with cameras and using black and white is always a great way to show their moodiness.

Protect and Provide

The female lions are not just the mothers, but the muscle of the pride too.

The juxtaposition of power and compassion is one of the most intriguing and beautiful aspects of a female lion. One minute they can be seen cuddling, loving and playing with their young, and the next they are taking down prey to feed their family.

They are powerhouses and we love sighting them in the bush.

Ahhhh Cape Town, the Mother City, she offers a plethora of fun and games.

I have yet to find another city with so much to offer, for the adventure lover, the peace and quiet seekers, the families and the solo travelers, Cape Town truly has it all.

The ‘Big 6’ are some of our favorite spots to hit:

Table Mountain, climb her or ride in the cable car, have lunch on top or just enjoy the spectacular views.

Cape Point, marvel at the convergence of two oceans.

Kirstenbosch Gardens, a picturesque expression of nature’s best.

Groot Constantia Wine Farm, learn the history of the area, sample their fabulous wines and dine at one of Cape Town’s top restaurants.

Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, walk are this massive complex of shops, eateries and more. From here you can jump on a helicopter for a scenic flip around the peninsular, a drop off and pick up to the wine lands, or a trip to Robben Island.

Robben Island, take a trip to the island where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned to learn about South Africa’s history.

Of course that is just scraping the tip of what Cape Town has to see and do.

There is great white cage diving, the penguins on Boulders beach, Ostrich riding, and the list goes on and on.

We believe that Cape Town is a must do for any Southern Safari package.

Botswana’s diversity and abundance of wildlife places it firmly at the top of our favorite safari destinations. The Okavango Delta is one of the most diverse and awe-inspiring wilderness locations in Africa, if not the entire planet. The Delta is a truly unspoiled wilderness with terrain ranging from dry grasslands to swamps. Safaris and game watching are the most popular activities in the park and possible animals to be sighted include cheetahs, zebra, giraffes, elephants, crocodiles and rhinos to name only a few. Jump in a mokoro to get up close and personal with the waterways and all who live there.
Kasane is situated between the Four Corners of Africa; where Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Zamibia meet. It is a great spot to stay for visits to the Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe or Botswana’s own Chobe National Park. The town’s own attractions include a huge Baobab tree that was once used as a prison due to its trunk that is so large a human can enter. There is also a snake park that houses around 50 snakes from 17 different species. The town is also wonderfully situated for exploring the Chobe River.
Wild, mysterious and amazingly vast, the Central Kalahari Game Reserve is a true wilderness that will give you the impression that you are exploring Africa alone. Incredible grasslands engulf you by day whilst the skies at night are as clear as the clearest in the world. The rain in summer brings about countless wild beasts of all shapes and sizes including massive herds of animals like wildebeast and springbok. Without so many animals in the harsher winter months, the main reason to visit the Central Kalahari Game Resrve is the unfathomable open terrain and true African wilderness. Not only does Botswana offer all this but with over 130 000 elephants living within its boundaries, Botswana is home to the world’s largest elephant population, and one of the last strongholds for African elephants. Both Uganda and Rwanda have outstanding Gorilla trekking options. Standing just a few feet from these gentle giants in their forest habitat and seeing them munch on fruit and plants, play with or groom one another, and idly look at the curious bipeds looking at them – these are magical moments that stay with you for a lifetime. This is a must add on to any Big 5 safari, just two or three extra days at the start, end or even in the middle of your trip, could have you experiencing these beauties.

Victoria Falls, Mosi-oa-Tunya, "The Smoke That Thunders" is a waterfall on the Zambezi River in southern Africa, which provides habitat for several unique species of plants and animals. It is located on the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe and is one of the world's largest waterfalls, with a width of 1708 m (5604 ft). Standing on the cliffs in the spray admiring the enormity of these mind blowing falls is one of our favorite things to do, it never gets old. The best part is that it is so easy to fit into any Sun-Saharan safari trip you want to do. If you have never been here, do yourself a favor and put it firmly at the top of your bucket list!

The hunter-gatherer San people are among the oldest cultures on Earth whose territories span Botswana, Namibia, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and South Africa.
These people are a incredibly adaptive to nature and their way of life is very peaceful. They suffer from the perception that their lifestyle is ‘primitive’ and ‘childlike’ but this could not be fitter from the truth. We can in fact learn a lot from these wonderful people.
We love to visit the San people on our trips, to engage, listen to their stories, and learn from the best trackers in the world.

I cannot wait to get back to Namibia, it is one of the most breathtaking places on earth.

Not only does it boast the oldest desert in the world, the Namib desert, at an astounding (roughly) 80 million years old! It contains some of the worlds driest regions and is home to the incredible Ovahimba and Herero tribes. Fun and games are to be had in this desert with Deadvlei to photograph (pictured below), exploring the Kolmanskop deserted mining town, reclaimed by the desert, and of course dune boarding down Dune 7 standing at over 1256 feet!

Namibia also boasts the phenomenal Skeleton coast. The bushmen of the interior called the region “The Land God Made in Anger”, the Portuguese sailors once referred to it as “The Gates of Hell”. This stretch of the country has several thousand shipwrecked vessels strewn across its vast coastline.l and is a true sight to see.

And of course, as with most Sub-Saharan countries, Namibia also has a plethora of wildlife, both in the desert and in the green lands of Etosha National Park.

All in all, this place is spectacular and very much worth a visit.
