One of the locals on Northern NM Roads advising travelers on safe way though the storm. Chanced up the following link to the High Road to Taos. Not Now. But people coming here for the winter are missing so much. Store this for your next free day or week. I have been there and done this but am going to again this May.

The High Road to Taos travels through awe-inspiring scenery and remote mountain villages that cling to their Spanish colonial roots.

It has been a long and beautiful Indian Summer but the weather is about to change. Snow in the forecast for Sunday. And El Nino promises a snowy winter. Good news for snowboarders, downhill skiers, snowshoers, and cross country skiers.

Fall has been a delight for hunters and hikers and bird watchers. But to all things there is a season.

A friend who fly fishes recently asked about places within 100 miles. There is the Coyote and the Cimarron rivers. Both within 40 miles depending upon which part of them you wish to fish. The Coyote boasts native brown trouts. Not your huge coastal waters but mountain sized. People also fly fish along the shores of Eagle Nest lake.
Closer to "A River Runs Through It" scenes but still within your 100 there is the Rio Grande at 73.6 miles, and the Red River at 29 miles. Distance is dependent upon where on the rivers you choose to fish. The Rio Grande comes closer to rivers on the west coast. And oops almost forgot the Chama River 83 miles. An excellent fishing stream that consistently produces trophy size brown trout.

Beginning a series on day trips from Charley's. One of my favorite is the south end of the Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. A wonderful place for photographers and artists, and fly fishermen. It is 74 miles from Black Lake. Time is determined by route, how long you spend there and the stops you make on route to photograph the scenery.

Not until tomorrow. I love fall here in the mountain west. The air is so clean and the skies display all the best of clouds and light.

Welcome to Charley's Hideaway in beautiful Black Lake in the mountains of northern New Mexico. The guest house has been open and operating for three years and is listed on vrbo #2251110 where all property details and listing information can be accessed. And where you can book a stay.

Object of this page is to be more friendly and open to my friends and future friends. And for me to post seasonal photos and events and happenings at Charley's. Feels a little like that first day in my then empty rental and I had a dream of what it could be.
