****Naya Hanuman ji Mandir, Aliganj Lucknow***

Covering the third siddh Hanuman Mandir, today we come to the Naya Hanuman ji Mandir at Hanuman Badi, Aliganj Lucknow. The legend goes that Sita ji rested here while on her way to Valmiki Ashram. A lot of modern folk lores are also attached to the temple as it is said that a Muslim Queens of one of the Nawabs - Mohammad Ali Shah prayed her and was blessed by a child thereafter. Though these stories are not recorded anywhere and are part of local culture.

Lucknow being the city of Lakshman ji is dotted with many famous and Siddh Hanuman Ji’s mandir. We shall cover most of them eventually.

*****Sri Bindu Madhav Mandir, Varanasi*****

Sri Bindu Madhav Mandir is one of the most ancient temples dedicated to Sri Hari in Varanasi. Goswami Tulsidasa worships Bindu Madhav ji in the following verses of Vinay Patrika

इहै परम फलु परम बढ़ाई
नखसिख रुचिर बिंदुमाधव छबि निरखि नयन अघाई

(The only relevance and greatness of this body that it It is only due to the virtue of this body that one is able to see the pleasant sight of Bhagwan Bindu Madhav from head to toe)

Legend goes that a saint called Bindu Maharaj worshipped Bhagwan Vishu and requested him to always stay in Varanasi to give Mukti to those who visit the city. The older temple was one of the grandest structures in Kashi and a French traveller Tavernier called it a great Pagoda in one of his travelogues. He describes the temple as a cross shaped pagoda with towers on each of the four arms and a large spire rising from the sanctum. The installed deity was six feet tall and garlanded with pearls, diamonds, and rubies.

The glorious temple like the Kashi Vishwanath was later destroyed by Aurangzeb in 1673 and he built the Alamgir Mosque in its place. What remains today is a 19th century strict built by a Maratha ruler.

The temple is situated high above the Panchganga Ghaat and provides a serene view of Ganga ji from its courtyard.

A must visit when you visit Varanasi next 🙂

***Sri Veni Madhav Mandir, Prayagraj***

Veni Madhav Mandir located at Daraganj close to the Triveni Sangam is one of the oldest shrines dedicated to Bhagwan Vishnu in Prayag. This is one of the Dwadasha Madhav Temples of this historical city.

This ancient temple dedicated to Lord Krishna and Lakshmi Devi and has been mentioned in Matsya Purana, Agni Purana and Padma Purana as the first seat of Lord Vishnu in Prayag. According to the Hindu scriptures, Lord Vishnu was asked to reside in Prayag after he saved his devotees from the atrocities of a rakshasa named Gajakarna who had managed to swallow the holy waters of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati.

It has been mentioned that one should take a dip in the Triveni Sangam and have darshan of Veni Madhav. This temple has also been mentioned in several religious texts, devotional songs and poems.

Right in front of the gates of Lucknow University is another famous and siddha Hanuman Ji’s mandir- Hanuman Setu. It was established by the famous saint- Baba Neem Karoli and is very near to the banks of Gomti River. During the historic floods of 1960 when all the nearby places were submerged in water, it is said that only the vigraha of Hanuman Ji was left untouched. The mandir is one of the most visited temples in Lucknow and it also runs Sanskrit and Vedic literature classes for students.

Praying to the feet of both Hanuman ji and Baba Neem Karoli that they give bhakti of Bhagwan to all of us. 🙏🙂

While taking a stride from Nakkhas to Maulviganj as one proceeds on Nadan Mahal Road one finds a bustling retail market of Rakabganj. It is probably one of the busiest roads of Lucknow and one of the places which is always full of people. Amidst all this chaos, one find an abode of peace-The Siddhnath Mandir. Located at the heart of old Lucknow, Sri Siddhnath Mandir is one of the oldest temples of our city where the Shivlinga is Swayambhu- that is it has appeared on its own and is placed lower than from the ground level.

I have a personal connect with the temple as my grandmother used to frequently pray to the Siddhnath Bhagwan. 🙂🙏

Lucknow being established by Bhagwan Lakshan is also the abode of Hanuman Ji as you find famous and siddha Hanuman Ji’s Mandir in every corner of the old city. The oldest among them is Purane Hanuman ji in Aliganj. Legend says that Hanuman ji guarded Mata Sita as she rested here while on her way to Valmiki Ashram at Bithoor. The temple is also said to have received donations and patronage from later Nawabs of Lucknow as one of the Hindu queens worshipped Hanuman ji here, though the veracity of this story is contested.

Bade Hanuman ji is one of the siddha temples of Lucknow and devotees visit it in large numbers on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Tuesdays of Jshetha Month as this temple is attributed to the Bada Mangal festival of Lucknow.

Even though being a major devotional centre this Mandir needs committed sewa and major renovations. Do visit this temple and have the Darshan of Bhagwan next time you are in Lucknow. 🙂
