A cruise trip is a fantastic way to explore the world and relax at the same time. However, there are a few essential components that you need to book to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

1. The Cruise Itself

This is obviously the most important part of your trip! You'll need to choose a cruise line, itinerary, and cabin that suits your needs and budget.

2. Pre/Post Cruise Hotels

If you're flying to your embarkation or disembarkation port, you'll need to book a hotel for the night before or after your cruise. This will give you time to adjust to the time difference and relax before or after your trip.

3. Flights

You'll need to book flights to and from your embarkation and disembarkation ports. Be sure to factor in the time it takes to get to and from the airport, as well as any potential delays. I always recommend flying in at least a day before the cruise to mitigate issues with unexpected delays.

4. Transfers

Once you've arrived at your embarkation port, you'll need to arrange transportation to the ship. You can usually book transfers through your cruise line or a third-party vendor. Note that some embarkation ports can be several hours from the nearest international airport.

5. Excursions

For travelers planning trips to Europe, the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) implementation has been further delayed. Recent updates indicate that ETIAS is now expected to become operational in late 2026.

This delay is closely linked to the rollout of the EU's Entry/Exit System (EES), which is set to begin its gradual implementation in late 2025. ETIAS will follow after the EES is fully in place.

For now, if you're a citizen of a visa-exempt country (like Canada), you can continue to travel to the Schengen Area without ETIAS. This delay gives travelers more time to prepare, but it's a reminder that travel regulations can change. I'll continue to provide updates as they become available.
