The SATSA Tourism Business Incubator Programme is revitalising South Africa’s tourism industry, one small business at a time! Many small tourism businesses are still struggling to return to pre-COVID levels, lacking the skills and resources to tackle industry challenges.

By offering expert guidance in areas like marketing, finance, and technology, the SATSA Tourism Business Incubator in partnership with Sigma International, empowers entrepreneurs to grow sustainably and build long-term resilience. Through partnerships and mentoring, the Incubator programme helps bridge the recovery gap and strengthen the sector.

What’s happening in Pilgrim’s Rest?
Our tourism members and the residents of Pilgrim’s Rest were very disturbed by recent reports in the media that the town is basically under siege by illegal miners and that it is a dangerous place. This of course has a vastly negative effect on tourism and the sustainability of the town. We were assured by the residents that it is business as usual and although there are illegal miners around the area, their presence does not affect the business centre or tourism to the town. We have requested the media to do a follow-up story and actually visit the area and the town as tourists and report the experience. Linda has offered to accompany them on this visit which is planned to happen in the coming few days. Linda will also see the MEC today with a lengthy agenda, including the solutions for Pilgrim’s Rest.

Worker's Day is observed annually in South Africa to celebrate workers' rights. It is also commemorated to acknowledge the role trade unions and workers' organisations played in the struggle against apartheid. In other countries, the day has been a holiday since 1891.

February 2020
During our visit to the Pilanesberg in February we encountered this nice sighting where Rain and her cubs moved towards a Rhino. The cubs tried to challenge the rhino, but the rhino just lowered her head and made a move towards them. They then realised there is no challenge and left the rhino alone.

Start your 2020 travel plans here, with the latest edition of Responsible Traveller mag.

In this edition we get off the beaten track and show that great experiences can be had without contributing to over-tourism at iconic, popular sites and destinations.

Experience the wonderful city of Bangkok differently - as the locals do... with Local Alike, we take commuter trains, buses and water taxis, walk side streets and alleyways, visit
local temples and little known sites and eat where the locals eat. Go beyond the beaches in Mauritius and explore this Indian Ocean Island like a local with Hotels Attitude and take the path less travelled in the KwaZulu-Natal. Explore lesser known beach, bush, battlefields and ‘berg destinations - beach (Mtunzini), bush (iSimangaliso Wetland Park's Western Shores), battlefields (Zululand's Route 66) and berg (Kamberg Game Pass cave) and stay at Toad Tree Cottage, Eco Lodge St. Lucia and Qambathi Mountain Lodge. Learn about whales and the routes they travel with Dyer Island Cruises, about the
importance of connecting with locals with Duara Travels, how luxury and sustainability can work together with Las Nubes de Holbox on the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico and why Colombia should be on your 2020 travel list.
