TRAVEL UPDATE to the North

Good news!

Fully-vaccinated individuals may now travel to Baguio City without having to submit a negative RT-PCR test.

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong has amended travel protocols in the city and waived the swab test requirement for travelers in the country’s summer capital, effective July 5, 2021.

Individuals who wish to travel to Baguio City only need three requirements for entry: a QR-Coded Tourist Pass which can be acquired by visiting vista.baguio.gov.ph, a negative COVID-19 test result or certificate of full-dose vaccination, and mandatory triage upon arrival.

The local government has advised tourists to practice of minimum public health standards and to seek medical attention if they have come in contact with a known confirmed case, or if they begin to feel any flu-like symptoms.

celebrates Cat Day.

As we celebrate International Cat Day, we would like you to meet our very own Visayan Leopard Cat (Prionailurus bengalensis rabori). Although they can be mistaken as domesticated cats, they are not your typical cute and cuddly cats. These wild cats can be found in the remaining forest patches of Panay and Negros Island; and also believed to be extirpated in Guimaras, Masbate, and Cebu.

Its conservation status is currently listed as Vulnerable because of deforestation and illegal wildlife trade. Without any efforts like the protection of its remaining habitats and ex-situ conservation, they might be gone forever like the Dodo. It's not too late to save our native and endemic wildlife from extinction, say NO to the illegal wildlife trade.

This photo of Wayi was taken by our NMP Museum Researcher John Rey Callado in 2008 while he was a student volunteer Mari-it Wildlife Conservation Park in Lambunao, Iloilo. According to Mr. Callado, after more than a year being cared for uncaged in the Park, Wayi returned to the nearby forest on her own.
