💌 The reason to name my travel documentation project ‘Earnest Travel Experiences' was my admiration for Ernest Hemingway's writings (my fav works include A Moveable Feast, a memoir set in Paris and The Sun Also Rises aka Fiesta, a novel set in Paris, Southern France and Northern Spain).⁣
⁣
I love this quote by him - When we embark on a journey with someone we truly love, be it a romantic partner, a close friend, or a cherished family member, our bond adds an extraordinary dimension to our shared adventures. Love becomes the thread that weaves moments together, transforming mere travel into a tapestry of profound emotions, mutual understanding and cherished memories. Through love, we find ourselves fully present in the unfolding narrative of exploration.⁣
⁣⁣
Conversely, venturing forth with someone lacking genuine affection can lead to a profound disconnect, inhibiting the harmonious rhythm of the journey and stifling the potential for authentic growth and fulfilment. ⁣⁣

Hemingway's words, while seemingly simple, invite us to reflect on the profound significance of love in shaping our experiences and the importance of cultivating relationships that enrich our lives.⁣

A day trip to Pakistan 🇵🇰 to visit Kartarpur Sahib 🪯⁣
⁣
- On Saturday, I travelled to Pakistan to pay my respects at the sacred Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur. This place of assembly and worship is built on the historic site where Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, settled and brought together the Sikh community after his transformative travels across Asia. For 18 years, it was his home until his passing in 1539.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The pilgrimage began with a flight from Delhi to Amritsar ✈️, followed by a bus journey to Dera Baba Nanak town 🚌. From there, I entered Kartarpur Corridor with the help of an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) 🛂, which allowed me to step into Pakistan, experiencing a journey of faith and unity.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
I can't express how safe and heartwarming the community of Kartarpur Sahib was. I am grateful to the Governments of India and Pakistan for making this peace corridor possible. It's a testament that long-term peace is attainable when we embrace each other's spiritual and cultural heritage. 🇮🇳🇵🇰

Btw, did you know the 1965 film Guide starring Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman was based on Narayan's novel published in 1958? Even though the film was a blockbuster and now has a cult following Narayan did not like the screen adaptation of his novel!⁣

🇮🇳 Travels across motherland - 19 States and Union Territories later, where should I go next? Northeast and Eastern states are obvious with the given mapping, but I also can't wait to explore regions like Jammu and Kashmir 🏔️, and Andaman and Nicobar Islands 🏖️

3. Lao People's Democratic Republic 🇱🇦 in 2022⁣

Even though their governments have been subjected to a lot of criticism, the locals in these countries have always made me feel safe and joyful in their homes and on the streets. Hopefully, I can visit the Republic of Cuba 🇨🇺 and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea 🇰🇵 one day.⁣

On my first trip to London 10 years ago, I visited Madame Tussauds museum and had a good time exploring it.⁣
⁣
In the pre-social media and overly touristic world of today, a place like Madame Tussauds was fascinating because you read about it in a Sherlock Holmes story by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (The Mazarin Stone) or a similar reference point from your childhood.⁣ You wondered about it for a long time and it felt good when you visited the place.
⁣
That fascination has gone away, with Madame Tussauds in many cities across the world and wax museums being common.⁣
⁣
Museums of all kinds are facing this problem today—how to remain fascinating. I think there are many solutions to this problem (creativity and leadership-driven); over-commercialising isn't one of them.⁣
