Our recycling program isn't the greatest (they pick up our recycling in garbage trucks 🤷🏻‍♀️). Of course only something like 9% of all plastic actually gets recycled even if it's tossed in a recycling bin. But we recently started paying for a GLASS recycling service that we know is doing a lot of good for our community and environment. Check out .nola to see what they're doing and if you have any glass containers left from your stay with us, please leave them behind for us to collect!

It's termite season! If you don't know what that means, lesson #1: don't turn on the outside light!
This is the time of year where, for a few weeks, termites swarm and are attracted to light. A lot of us keep our homes pretty dark at night so swarms don't try to come inside.
Right now, we're asking guests to leave the outside light off and to use the new black out curtain panel to help shield the inside light. We've also shut off the patio lights that come on each evening.

One of the things we noticed when we "stayed" in the the other night was how bright it was in the morning. 😳 We're surprised that guests haven't brought this to our attention!
Luckily, we had an extra black-out panel and curtain rod lying around, so up it went! It's now behind the blinds and pretty easy to pull over if you want less sunshine in the AM. 👍🏻

We truly believe that the Hideaway provides a nice break from the crazy outside world, whether you're visiting for a fast-paced conference or in town for a music festival (fun, but still exhausting!).
Sometimes we need the break ourselves, like this past weekend when WE enjoyed a night in the Hideaway. 🤣 Sure it's in the same building where we live, but it's a change of scenery and it's the room in the house with the least amount of outside noise. That little break was exactly what we needed, too!

We love personal touches, but it's funny - we also enjoy the minute or two that it takes to switch out our guests' names on the felt board. It's oddly relaxing to sift through all the letters in the box to spell out the name of the next guest. Anyone else find strange enjoyment from stuff like that? 🤣🤷🏻‍♀️

We recently made the switch to more environmentally friendly products and this hand soap has gotten so many compliments from guests! The refill containers are aluminum, which means we can recycle them and there is zero plastic waste. 🙌🏻

Working remotely? Want another quiet place to get stuff done? Or maybe you just want somewhere peaceful and outdoors for reading a good book. The Hideaway patio is perfect!

✔️sectional sofa (cushions not shown)
✔️two ottomans to put your feet up
✔️patio lights from roughly 5-10pm

We love our patio because even though it's only steps from the street, everything seems to disappear when you relax back here. Come see for yourself!

Guests will occasionally be treated to the glorious sounds of music lessons! We have a private studio of roughly 30 students whom we teach every week. On weekdays, lessons are between 4-7pm. On weekends they are scattered throughout the day, but no earlier than 10am. Guests have frequently commented about how nice it is to hear the music. We hope that continues!

It's interesting that some guests (including two of our most recent) give us only 4* for "location". It's as if they didn't notice the map with our general location when making their reservation, like our location is a surprise.

Thankfully, most of our guests love where the ICH is located. Magazine St, just two blocks away, is an awesome spot for dining, coffee shops, retail therapy, or just walking and people watching! We think our location is fantastic and love when our guests appreciate it as well.

Are we downtown? No. Are we near the French Quarter? No. But the uptown area is beautiful, especially this time of year. And we have so many transportation options that you can still get anywhere you want to go. Love the Irish Channel!

Yes! This is our goal. We want our guests to have a calm, relaxing stay in the ICH, hopefully forgetting that we are in the same building. We do our best to be quiet while guests are visiting!

And we love that this guest referred to the ICH as a little cottage. The house itself is in a historic neighborhood and was originally a Creole cottage! We've provided a history of the neighborhood in the guest manual.

It looks like fall temps are finally coming to stay! We've got cooler temps arriving tomorrow and we couldn't be more excited. We're celebrating by getting the patio ready for cozy fall nights outside.

We recently put the lights on a timer, which means they'll be on most evenings, and we're excited to bring the fire pit back out this weekend! (Guests may use the pit if the host is present.)

Fall is our favorite season! 🍂🎃🍁
