BIRCHENOUGH BRIDGE

Named after Sir Henry Birchenough, the bridge crosses over Save River and has a total length of 378m. It was designed by Mr Ralph Freeman who was also the structural designer of the Sydney Harbour Bridge hence the similar methods were adopted in building both bridges. A couple of years after completing the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Dorman Long & Co of Middlesbrough came and constructed Birchenough Bridge. Mr Freeman also designed the Victoria Falls Bridge.
