Chefs Xiomara Battle and Derek Spires from ISS USA took home the gold medal at the grand finale of the ISS International Culinary Competition 2022. Since its inception in 2017, the competition is open to all ISS chefs from around the world providing our chefs with a global stage to showcase their culinary talent and skills.
This year’s competition was built around ISS’s global ambition of halving its food waste by 2027. In the live cook-off final, participants were tasked with creating the most sustainable and tasty two-course restaurant menu with the least food waste and best product utilisation in 60 minutes.
The team from USA achieved the highest scores from nine judges, including the Danish Michelin-Starred Chef Claus Christensen and Melina Shannon Di-Pietro, Executive Director of the non-profit MAD Foundation.

Hospital portering teams are integral to the flow and function of every hospital, and our award-winning team at University Hospital Derby & Burton is no exception.
Porters at Derby are often the first and last touchpoints throughout the patient and clinician journey. In a ‘normal’ non-Covid year the team handles 78,000 patient-related moves, delivery of specimens, moving 2,000 tonnes of waste and of course, is the welcoming face at the start and end of a hospital visit.

Mobile robots removing dirty dishes and empty bottles from canteen tables may become a normal sight in companies and public institutions in the near future. The goal of a new innovation project, FacilityCobot, is to develop a unique mobile robot that can relieve cleaning staff from repetitive or physically exhausting tasks.
This first-of-its-kind solution integrates a smart building sensor system with a human robot interface – allowing the robot to work efficiently side by side with cleaning staff in large open-space areas such as canteens and offices.
