" All of those colors stirred feelings of nostalgia. I thought about baggy sweaters, bonfires, fingerless gloves, and my favorite hiking boots."

"Rain, rain, go away" - but before it does, let's have some fun with these 5 odd facts about rain!

1. Raindrops aren't actually teardrop-shaped - they're more like hamburger buns! The force of air resistance on the falling raindrop causes it to flatten at the bottom and bulge at the top.

2. That brings us to the fact that raindrops can fall at speeds of up to 22 miles per hour.

3. There's a name for the smell of rain - "petrichor." It's caused by oils released from soil, bacteria, and plants during dry periods, and when rain hits the ground, it carries those oils up into the air. The smell is liked so well that cosmetic companies have used the scent in colognes and perfumes.

4. Rain can contain diamonds! Scientists have found microscopic diamonds in rain and snow, and believe they come from space, carried to Earth by meteorites.

5. The world's largest raindrop on record fell in Brazil in 1995, and was the size of a grapefruit! The average raindrop is only about the size of a pencil eraser.

Here is a bonus- As crazy as this sounds, there's a place on Earth where it hasn't rained for over 2 million years. I know right? It's called the Atacama Desert in Chile.

So next time it's raining outside, remember these fun facts and enjoy the unique and quirky wonders of nature.
