Kerala Tourism Department to manage Vellar village soon
The Department of Tourism, Government of Kerala has decided to take charge of the management of Vellar tourist village, which was being managed by the Kudumbasree for the past three years. The department is planning to give a new lease of life to the venture by adding elements such as a weaving unit, sales counter for ethnic saris and arts and crafts. “The department is hoping to make a few value additions to the village such as an amphitheatre for staging dance and drama performances. These events will be popularised through travel desks at various hotels in the area. Kudumbasree will be given their space and can continue to hold food festivals and crafts sales, but there is a need to breathe more life into the project. The department is not planning to pump in any more money into the project, but we will just add some value additions to take it off the ground and make it popular," said an official from the Kerala Tourism Department.
