It's amazing what you can find when you get out of the cities and onto the road less taken. The West Highlands and coast of Scotland is full of history, from distilleries to churches to castles to ruins. Oban is a great jumping off point so grab a car and get out there as we head into summer!

Jumping on the bandwagon of lights posts, I got out of town near Stirling to enjoy some lights. Sometimes, going on a random adventure when it's offered is the absolute right thing to do. 10 out of 10 recommend!

Even with the days getting shorter and colder it shouldn't stop you getting out there. Despite a minor knee injury, I went out for 6 glorious days up north of over 1,000 miles of exploring with great company. From Aberdeen to Achnasheen to Applecross, from Inverness to Skye to Pitlochry, and finally from Dunkeld to Stirling to Edinburgh, the colours, the coast and the wildlife were on fire.

What a difference a couple of months make! As I tell groups on tours of Edinburgh Castle (, ), every year a temporary stadium is built to accommodate the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo (). This spectacle of military parade happens every August with the Castle as the backdrop. Photo one shows the stadium at the height of summer and the second shows the last sections standing as they were being deconstructed earlier in October. Within the next couple days there won't be any evidence that this was ever in front of the Castle. Only in Edinburgh!
