Have you thought about trying to live zero-waste 🚯? We have been trying for a while now, and although it hasn't been perfect, we have definitely noticed some improvements along the way, like completely eliminating paper towels from our kitchen.

How about traveling zero waste? This article (https://www.lonelyplanet.com/articles/guide-to-zero-waste-travel) in Lonely Planet has some great tips, like visiting destinations committed to reducing waste, using companies that try to minimize their impact, and packing a zero-waste kit containing alternatives to plastic bottles, coffee cups ☕, plastic bags, and straws.

Our favorite quote from the article: ‘Zero-waste travel is all about effort, not perfection,’ - Anita Vandyke. Happy zero waste travels!

Sustainability advocate Anita Vandyke explains how travellers can join the push to reduce human impact on the planet.

Finally a sunny weekend in Stockholm 🌞! We celebrated by taking a hike in the lovely Hagaparken, and finding this artichoke sandwich at a cafe in Bergianska trädgården along the way was one of the highlights of the hike. No need to travel far, sometimes the best experiences are right at your doorstep!

Do you love being out in nature and seeing wildlife in their natural habitat? We sure do!

Many of us try to avoid activites that we think could harm animals, like going to the circus with animal shows or riding elephants. Sadly, it seems that some unethical organizations are taking advantage of this.

There's a place called "Elephant EcoValley" in Chiang Mai, Thailand where elephants that are normally chained and trained to perform tricks for tourists are placed in a grassy field, giving the impression that it is an ethical establishment, when it fact it is not!

You can read more about this, and get more information about wildlife tourism in an article from National Geographic called "Suffering unseen: The dark truth behind wildlife tourism". Some of the stories just broke our hearts. During our holidays this Christmas season, let's do our best to avoid captive wild animal encounters and prevent any more animals from suffering needlessly.

In celebration of National Wildlife day in the US, we would like to feature the 🐢 hawksbill sea turtle!

Hawksbills have an average life span of 30 - 50 years, and weigh from 100 - 150 pounds. They can be found in the tropical Atlantic, Pacific and Indian oceans 🌏, usually hanging out in coral reefs. They use their beaks to eat their favorite food, sponges from these reefs 🌊. Hawksbills are a vital part of marine ecosystems because they help keep coral reefs and sea grass beds healthy!

Sadly, hawksbills are a critically endangered species, and this is mainly due to human impact. Hawksbills are often killed for their valuable beautiful colored and patterned shells (known as "tortoiseshell" and their flesh, and they can also be accidentally trapped in fishing nets.

Join the 💚Too Rare To Wear 💚 (https://www.tooraretowear.org/) project Too Rare To Wear and find out how you can help end the demand for turtleshell products and prevent hawksbills from becoming extinct!

🧳 Where are YOU traveling to this summer? Are you keeping your sustainable habits on while traveling?
😊 We would love to hear YOUR tricks and tips!

🌱 On our website, we only list accommodations and tours with sustainable practices.
❓But what does the term 'sustainable' actually mean?
🌐 According to the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), sustainable tourism is: "Tourism that takes full account of its current and future economic, social and environmental impacts, addressing the needs of visitors, the industry, the environment and host communities"
♻️ Therefore, all the hotels or tours on Coral Road follow at least one of the following practices: help to protect the environment, recycle, save energy and water, suppport the community and locals, use locally grown products and treat its employees fairly.
👉 For example, on the second picture you can clearly see which sustainable initiatives Sangat Island Dive Resort is conducting. These sustainable initiatives are shown next to each accommodation on our website!

Are you looking for a unique place to go on your next vacation?
🤩 We have a tip for you! How about a Treehouse Hideaway in India with access to one of the best tiger parks in the world?
🏡 The Tree House is designed through the fusion of jungle living and contemporary design (as you can see in the pictures).
💚 Some of our favorite things about this place are that the owners (Pugdundee Safaris) are working on wildlife conservation, and that you'll find refillable amenities instead of those small wasteful plastic bottles.
🚴‍♀️ If you would like to explore the surroundings, there is a possibility to rent a bike!
🦜Aside from cycling, you can do many interesting activities while staying at the Tree House such as nature and village walks, bird watching, hiking or visiting schools.
😊 It sounds good, right? Check out this amazing hideaway on this link --> https://www.coralroad.com/hotel/129

Did you know that 2/3 of the Earth's surface is made up of water?
🌊 It's World Ocean's Day tomorrow so here are a few tips on how we can help our oceans!
1 Sign an eco-pledge while traveling to different countries.✍️
2 Use reef-safe sun protection products because 14,000 tonnes of toxic sunscreen make their way to the underwater world each year and cause deformation of juvenile corals. Our tips can be found in stories! 🌅
3 Always, always take your trash, if you have any, with you once you are leaving the beach! 🗑️
These are small things all of us can easily do, but can make a big impact if a lot of us do them! If you are interested to read more about this topic, check out this article -> http://bit.ly/2Z6aReO

CORAL ROAD: Is there a story behind the name?
🐠 Coral reefs are an incredibly important element of our environment and contain some of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet.
🌱 They provide habitats for a variety of marine organisms, support high species diversity, and are a source of nitrogen and other essential nutrients for marine food chains, among many other functions. These is why it is so crucial to protect the corals.
🎥 If you want to learn more about these incredible creatures, check out this amazing documentary, Chasing Corals https://www.chasingcoral.com/
😢 Unfortunately, about half of the world's shallow water coral reefs are now gone due to rising temperatures caused by climate change, pollution, overfishing, coastal destruction and careless tourism!
👉 Therefore, the name of our company is CORAL ROAD to highlight the importance of coral reefs, as well as their sensitivity to changes in our environment and tourism.
💚 Thank you for joining us on this journey to make sustainable travel the new normal!

🌱 The Goat Village is a range of farm retreats and homestays in India managed by The Green People. They are a community working towards a new blend of eco-tourism, agro-tourism and rural-tourism.
🏆 It is a young organization who has already won IRTA in 2019 for their sustainable initiatives such as locally grown produce, prohibition of plastic on their premises and preserving wildlife by their actions.
👥 Moreover, The Green People partnered with locals and particularly they help to create the original basic lifestyle experience for the visitors.

🌳 Did you know that it's World Love a Tree Day today?
❤️ Trees and forests provide a natural habitat for many species of animals and plants.
🏞 Tropical rainforests are one of the most biodiverse habitats in the world.
💚 In order to keep it this way for the future, we need to take care of our environment!
😍 Today is a perfect day to give a tree a big hug, donate to an organization which specializes in planting trees or even plant a tree yourself!
