Had a great week with Brandon Ayres of Arrowhead Outfitters Oregon chasing wolves along the Innoko. Doing our part to help the moose population. We took this 7'8" Alpha Male away from his small pack that had a few kills near Ophir. He has the colors of the American Creek pack and was likely the smart one dodging my snares all week and last year. Time will tell if the others have learned but I will keep after them!

Our friend Bob Bailey in Palmer did a great job on Greg Newton and my European Mounts. He also cleaned up my wolf, wolverine, otter and marten skulls for me. Bob is a bad ass. Jesse Grady

The best part of this hunting season has been making new friends. I am very proud of my clients for learning how to read the river, call in bulls and for respecting the animals. We are blessed to have a ton of meat and the smoker going!! I am extremely thankful for Chris Stewart and his white lab Homer. I will miss them until next season 😁 Jesse Grady

Last pic is the finished....start to finish pics of converting my old POS shed to a large open "barn" with enclosed storage on the side. The original design was 100% crap but it worked for 10yrs. I planned this out this spring, did the logging and milled all the lumber and built it myself one board at a time. Pretty exhausted. This will be great for hunting clients to organize gear and butcher meat out of the rain! Now i get to work on my meatshed and jetboats!! Jesse Grady

It has been one of the hardest winters i have ever experienced but i did pretty good trapping. One more month left for wolves but i have no more room on my wall so it's picture time 😂

Everyone say hi to Fred. This big male has been avoiding my sets for months. I had to change tactics, dyed my snares in black tea and crawled up a trail with wolf p**s all over my coveralls. He makes #11 for me this year.

It's been about 3 months and finally got a gray wolf from a pack that has been super hard to target as i have already taken a few of them. This gorgeous female pup makes wolf #10 for me this year. There are a bunch of males around and it looks like they are p*e writing in the snow laughing at me "sucker" "can't catch us" or "fred wuz here" hahaha i'm having fun helping the poor moose out, snow is insane deep. I have to crawl on my hands and knees to set snares off my trail. Also got a nice lynx over at Tatalina.

Wolf #9 for the year. Beautiful thick fur on this guy. We have insane snow and warm temperatures today so i went and pulled all my traps down the Innoko yesterday. Lots of water and deep snow but it wasn't too bad and was a fun day. Also a picture of a "perfect pass" on a wolverine pole set, trigger set out wide so Marten can go through to the bait without setting off the conibear for wolverine.

I had an awesome weekend, Ryan Goods came with me down the innoko and I got three wolves while hauling supplies in preparation for next fall moose hunting. I had this brown female pup that looked like a coyote in the p*e set i made last week. Another brown male from the innoko pack broke a tree with a snare at the kill and we found him down the river under a tree by the trail. We had seen the tracks earlier in the day and i mentioned a story to Ryan his dad told me about a wolf carrying his toggle and making a drag mark and sure thing that's what it was! So lucky we found this guy. Finally caught an elusive old female with one blind eye(blue) at Ganes Creek. She had been dodging my sets for a while now. The wolves had another moose down around the corner so they are putting a hit on the moose in this deep snow.

Went down the innoko and set a bunch of p*e posts for wolves & wolverine pole sets. It was stupid cold so i didn't take many pics. This was a nice post a bend below a wolf kill i set snares on a couple days before. Note my fake tracks made with a Mtn. Dew bottle. This only works until it snows but is fun to do 😁 Broke trail with Barney Anselment to Carlson's cabin. It had 2-3" of ice inside from the fall flooding. Door was wide open likely from the ice expanding. We cleaned it out and made a big fire so it should be ok now.

I caught this beautiful Steel Gray wolf in this lynx/wolverine set yesterday! She was super fat so the lures i made had to have sparked her curiosity enough to go to that tree. Since i set this back in December the snow has covered most of the willows so i have had to constantly shovel a small trail out to the trap and reset it a bunch of times. Crazy

Nice Wolverine today! Took him about a month to return to the set he stole my bait from but i got him this time. Let's just say he was not so happy to see me...snarling little bear!!

I have always loved trapping marten since i was a boy. The color varieties are amazing. These beautiful animals provide a winter income for those living in interior alaska. Winter trapping in the dark and cold is definitely not easy, but it is way cheaper than a psychiatrist 🤓

Amazing day, broke trail with 4ft drifts at -35 below, shredded a belt and kept going, pack of 4-5 wolfs on the trail and got this big old boy in a p*e set. HUGE head on him, HUGE claws, full body of hair. This was a hard set and it took a couple months to get a wolf. The rest of the subdominant pack should be back. i let out a huge howl before i took off and set more snares. Good day, Happy Trapper :)

I hope everyone is staying warm in this -40F weather! I did a bit of Alaska-style "glamping" in my front yard last night and slept in my Wiggy's-Alaska FTRSS sleeping bag. All I can say is that it's really cold outside but that bag was crazy warm! Just slept in my long johns!! The stars were A-MA-ZING 🥶

A lynx has been going by my cabin so I had a blind set on this trail which it walked by on another trail. I added some play toys (cds) for the kitty to come play with over my trap 🙂

Pre-season pics of boiling traps/snares in spruce boughs and making home made lure. Boiling takes of grease and spruce boughs give color to the traps (and gives a fresh evergreen scent! Haha) Lures sometimes work and sometimes don't. Have to keep trying things out!

A jig I made for setting traps in the snowmachine trail. This eliminates a lot of disturbance in the snow while setting the traps.

This is one of our "dumb sets". Two snowmachine trails, one on left has a #9 in the middle (barely visible). A flag on a stick pushes animals to the other trail. A fox already walked by the trap and waiting for the wolves to come back.

#9 at a scent post for wolves snapped by a moose grazing on the willows. The wolves came by and p**sed on the set and trap after! Makes for a good laugh 🙂

An open cubby for Lynx/Wolverine/Fox. They work if it doesn't snow too much. Just a bit of lure and bait at the base of the tree and some guide sticks is all you need. Trap is kinda visible right in the middle of the set.
