My favourite birth stories are the ones where birth just happens, accidentally, sometimes unassisted: at home, in the car, in the parking lot. Even in the hospital: When the nurse, who was too concerned about herself to notice, leaves the room because she finally decided to call the doctor. When birth just works!

I really don't understand the competition between women when it comes to our cycles, pregnancy and birth. Being extremely in tune with your cycle, or birthing without any interventions, does not make you a better person. And not being or doing these things does not make you a lesser person. Patriarchy had built this into our culture, and it no longer serves us! What if instead, we simply listened to each other's stories?

Your cervix is not a crystal ball. A cervical check only tells you what your cervix is doing in the moment of the check. Checks are also highly subjective. There are a few situations where a cervical check will give you useful information but it is not recommended as part of routine care.
