In New Zealand's largest city, eating early eating has become entwined in a dining 👩‍🍳 culture where booking a table past 8.30pm at weekends is a rarity!

(This sucks for the night owls!)

According to a survey by international food magazine Chef's Pencil, restaurants in Auckland take the earliest last 🛎️ orders in the world, alongside Luxembourg.

And by 06.00 pm all stores are closed!

The ""six o'clock swill"" was a slang term for the last-minute rush to buy drinks 🍻 at a hotel bar before it closed at 6 PM.

This term was used in both Australia and New Zealand, and was a result of a culture of heavy drinking that developed between finishing work at 5 PM and the mandatory 🕕 closing time.
