My name is Dale and I was born and raised in the beautiful, sandy beach town of Tawas that La Vida Loon cottage is located in. Growing up in such a picturesque and outdoor-oriented community instilled in me a deep love for travel, sports, and adventure. Whether it's kayaking on the crystal clear lakes, hiking through the forests, or trying out new extreme sports, I am always up for a new challenge
and experiencing the thrill of the unknown. In addition to my love of adventure, I also have a passion for renovating and transforming houses into comfortable, inviting long term and short term rentals. My brothers and I renovated La Vida Loon which brought our whole family together and was an experience I'll never forget. This cottage has been a true labor of love over the last 5 months as our family decided to buy this 100 year old property and fully restore it to its former glory once known as Grove Cottages. Being from Tawas, this town and this lake has a very special place in our hearts which was one of the main reasons we wanted to restore this property so that guests could enjoy all the lake has to offer. As first time hosts and being local to the area it means a lot to us to also preserve and protect the community’s culture and the surrounding natural environment. Nestled on the edge of the lake, our charming cabin offers the perfect retreat for a relaxing getaway. We're all so excited to share this cabin and our hometown with all our amazing guests! So whether you’re looking for a quiet weekend escape or a adventurous vacation with friends and family, La Vida Loon is perfect. We cant wait to host you!
The water and beaches of Tawas Bay are perfect for all kinds of recreation. The bay is perfect for sailing, paddling, fishing, power boating, wave runners, and is recognized as a premier kiteboarding destination. A gradual dropoff from the beach to the bay makes it a fantastic family beach with lots of room for kids of all ages to play, picnic, and relax.

The Tawas area has fishing galore, regardless of the season or how much gear you have. Fishing in Tawas Bay includes walleye, northern pike, yellow perch, brown trout, and smallmouth bass. During the spring and fall, whitefish, steelhead, brown trout, lake trout and walleye move along the shoreline of the bay. Fish from riverbanks, the shore, the dock, your own boat, a charter, or the ice in winter. Don't forget to try your luck on the AuSable River, Tawas Lake, Van Etten and Cedar Lakes in Oscoda, along with a host of smaller inland lakes.

Growing up in East Tawas, a small beach town community on the shores of Lake Huron, was a true privilege. When I saw an article posted by Awesome Mitten it reminded me of the memories and experiences I gained from living by the water that will stay with me forever. Here are the top 5 things that made my childhood special:
1. The sound of the waves crashing against the shore of Lake Huron, filling my heart with a sense of peace and wonder. Looking out over the horizon and seeing nothing but blue.
2. The small town community spirit and the bonds I formed with my neighbors and friend. We gathered at the beach, the pier, the park, and spent hours getting sunburned before finally retreating to Marion's or G's.
3. The endless summer days spent playing on the sandy beaches and swimming in the clear waters of Lake Huron. And at times the bone chilling cold water, the kind that takes your breath away as you dive in.
4. The beauty of the sunsets over Lake Huron and the way they painted the sky every evening. Watching fireworks on the beach, over the water.
5. The feeling of belonging to a tight-knit community and being a part of something bigger than myself. The way the whole community gathers for the festivals and parades. Homecoming, 4th of July, and Perchville just to name few.

All fishing license fees will be waived for two days. Residents and out-of-state visitors may enjoy fishing on both inland and Great Lakes waters for all species of fish. All fishing regulations still apply.

We’ve recently restored this lakeshore cabin and can’t wait to share the transformation and more about our renovation journey with you!
The ceiling and wood panels are probably our favorite feature we added to the cabin. It was important to us to keep as much of the original building as we could, so all of the wood used was reclaimed from the floor joists and attic floor boards. We had to remove all the 100 year old square spike nails then ripped them with the table saw and planed them all to be equal thickness. Although one of the the most time consuming parts of the project, the results were definitely worth it! It came out more beautiful than we ever imagined. Can’t wait for you to see it for yourself!
