It’s cruise embarkation day and you’re so excited to board the ship!!

If you’ve booked your cruise with me, I’m sure I’ve shared my recommended places to visit first once onboard - and one of them is to grab lunch.

But here’s a pro tip for you: if possible, skip the casual buffet (Windjammer on Royal Caribbean). It’ll be packed, especially day 1, as guests are waiting to gain access to staterooms. So instead, check out another dining option onboard like Cafe Promenade, Park Cafe, Fish & Ships, and others (exact options dependent on ship).

This message is for ANYONE that needs to be reminded: Moms and Dads needing a quick weekend away, Families up for a “yes weekend” full of memories, a group of friends wanting to escape the grind for a bit….

Long weekend trips are amazing and can often be just what you need to reset and refresh!

Two years ago on this weekend, my husband and I were on a 3 night Bahamian cruise and it was incredible. We are hoping to do another later this year! We have also taken the whole family to Disneyland for 3 nights and the kids STILL rave about that trip. Last fall, we did 3 nights at Disney World and caught both Food and Wine Festival and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party - another trip that has been deemed a family favorite!

Dreaming of lots of vacations but not sure where or WHEN to start?

Let’s breakdown some ideal times to book certain vacations…

Experts agree that for domestic travel 1-6 months in advance is good. Even trips that involve more planning than others, like Disney World, can be done within the 3 month mark (or less if you are more flexible) these days.

It’s suggested to start booking international travel in the 6-12 month range to have the most flexibility on airfare, accommodations, tours, etc. And many enjoy the longer amount of time to pay off a more expensive trip.

Cruises can really vary. If you have preferred cabin types or amenities you are wanting then, the sooner the better (3-18 months). But don’t count out last minute cruises; itineraries sailing within just a couple months that are not sailing at full capacity can often see a drop in price of available cabins.

So that means, today we can still plan Spring Break travel, easily book summer and fall vacations, and look ahead to some bigger trips over the 2024 holidays or 2025 Spring Break!

Let’s talk Butterbeer!

Butterbeer is the popular beverage served in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal theme parks. It is one of the many elements that has been brought to life straight from the book/movie franchise.

Butterbeer is non-alcoholic and served at multiple locations across the park - making it quite accessible. It has been said to have a “shortbread and butterscotch” taste. Most do agree that it is sweet and somewhat creamy.

You can actually order it any of 3 ways: frozen (like a slushy consistency), chilled/cold (like beer or juice - usually no ice), or hot (like hot chocolate). I have found each way tasted slightly different and can say my favorite is the hot Butterbeer!

One of my favorite details of a Disney Cruise is the rotational dining aspect.

Unlike most cruise lines, Disney ships have multiple very different “main dining rooms”. Rotational dining allows guests to visit each of the different main dining rooms during their cruise. You may dine in MDR A on night 1, then MDR B on night 2, C on 3, and back to A on night 4 on a 4-night cruise. Other parties might rotate in the order of B-C-A-B. And of course, there’d be a C-A-B-C group to round it all out.

And I love that your server and assistant server follow with you on your rotation. So you still build that relationship and get that personalized service while experiencing and visiting all the complimentary dining rooms onboard.

For now, I will share that adult meals on the dining plan include an alcoholic drink - and the selections at many restaurants (especially quick service options) tend to be more extensive than what is posted on the app/menu so don’t be afraid to take a look in the cooler and enjoy a drink with your meal!
