The Tam-awan Village Gallery and Chanum Foundation, Inc. are thrilled to announce their 25th anniversary this year. This momentous occasion will be celebrated in conjunction with the 13th Tam-awan International Arts Festival to be held on October 4 to October 8, 2023.
The festival, titled “Ajowanan Kaugadian”, translated as "taking care of traits and practices passed on by our ancestors", will highlight Tam-awan’s mission to promote and preserve Philippine arts and culture.
Since its inception in 1996 by Chanum Foundation, Inc. Tam-awan Village has become a renowned cultural hub nestled in the heart of Baguio City. This cultural village and its organization have since been dedicated to educating visitors on the Cordillera region’s rich cultural heritage. It has continued to instill appreciation of Cordilleran art, music, and way of life, by transforming itself into a creative haven that artists and people from all walks of life could visit.
The silver anniversary will be marked by a five day-long festival which will include art exhibits, musical performances, art workshops, lectures and many other curated events. Tam-awan International Arts Festival, the organization’s premier event, will bring together artists not just from the Cordillera region, but also from other parts of the Philippines, and all over the world. True to its purpose, the TIAF will be a celebration of art, music and dance. During this grand celebration, patrons will be treated to a series of exciting events and activities that showcase the rich heritage and tapestry of Cordilleran culture.
For the past 25 years, Tam-awan Village has become a center for indigenous artists to create, exhibit and sell their works. The village has also offered art workshops and hosted cultural presentations helping to pass on traditions to younger generations. The village has also begun to promote various art styles of artists from different regions in the country.
This milestone anniversary is a testament to the unwavering commitment of Tam-awan Village to bridging the gap between tradition and contemporary arts. Well-known for its breathtaking location and traditionally-inspired and authentic native huts, the village has become a beloved cultural destination for both local and international visitors over the past two decades.
Located amidst green mountains and surrounded by lush foliage and breathtaking views, the village offers a tranquil and immersive experience to those seeking to connect with indigenous culture.
