1985. The Decembrists’ Museum was founded.
It’s housed in the former Archangel Michael church. This 2-storey wooden building is the oldest in Chita. The ground floor is dedicated to the Decembrists, while the first floor is dedicated to their wives who followed them to Siberia. The museum contains over 870 items including newspapers, books, tools, utensils, personal items, originals and copies of paintings, suits, samples of polymetallic ore mined by the prisoners etc.

1961. Chita Philharmonic Hall founded. It relocated to its current building in 2008 and now comprises two halls and an organ room.
The Hall is basically the heart of the city cultural life. There are concerts throughout the year as well as the annual spring festival “The Blooming Rhododendron” when local and foreign musicians are invited.
One of my most memorable moments here was a performance by the famous Russian pianist Denis Matsuev who played Tchaikovsky and Schumann.

1960. The first Lenin statue was erected in the main square. But it was replaced in 1985. It’s interesting that the current statue is facing the opposite direction.

It’s week 2 of the official self-isolation in Russia.
The Chita streets are visually less crowded than usual.
The essential services are open, and people can still buy food, medicines, etc.
The protective measures are in effect (gloves, masks, sanitizing, safe distance lines).
So far, it’s 14 confirmed Covid-19 cases in Chita which are exported from Moscow and from abroad (only one person got it locally, from a family member).
However, the people are staying cool and calm (except for some individuals) and are trying to adjust to the current situation and get the most out of it.
Have a nice week and stay healthy and positive!
