What breathtaking and awe-inspiring scenery (part 2).

This is Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town, South Africa. We spent the morning going up the Lion's Head hike. A short hike up into the clouds. We then took the cable car up to the top of Table Mountain in the evening and just missed the sunset. Even so, the views were mesmerising and watching the changing sky was absolutely majestic.

What breathtaking and awe-inspiring scenery! Can you believe that I took these pictures with my amateur skills and no editing?

At the beginning of this year, I decided to take time off work and stay in a lovely hotel for some personal time. I had quite a few personal issues going on and just needed a breather. The hotel had a gym, a swimming pool and Richmond Park nearby.

I got the opportunity to focus on me. Not on work, not on household chores and not on anyone else in my life. Self care has been commercialised to the point where it simply means to spend what you want on any of your desires and focus only on yourself. That's not fair. We all have our personal experiences and challenges and we all need some time to figure out how we best cope and become better/ healthier/ focussed of ourselves.

During my trip, I went for walks, swam, and used the gym. No timetable, just the chance to follow my own rhythm (and figure out what that even was). I also binged my favourite show on Netflix (for the third time).

I know I'm very privileged to be doing this. I do not have kids and I have the disposable income to be able to afford this. But now as I write this back at home, I've found ways of incorporating this into my day to day life. I go for walks with an amazing friend every chance I get. I've joined the gym and I do the least, but try to be consistent. Life is a journey and we need to look after ourselves in the process.

I hope you can also look after yourself or slowly learn how to.

What did I gain? I learnt to relax and for me that's incredibly difficult. And I looked after my body and mind with regular exercise, and having fun with myself exploring Richmond Park.

Have you ever visited a fish market? This is Noryangjin Fish Market in Seoul, South Korea (2016)

We were able to bargain for our fish (in Korean), see them killed before our eyes, and then take them to a local restaurant for them to serve to us with salad, veg and dips. It was a great experience (provided you're not vegetarian)!

My next post will be a video of the "alive" octopus (sannakji) being eaten, which you've got to see!

The best breads/pastries! These are from my trip to Korea in 2016. I love me a good croissant, but these were so much more! Spongy, sweet, filled with an array of different fillings. You have to try these when you visit Korea!!!

In the third photo, you can see the king's throne. Behind the throne is the sun, moon and 5 peaks used to symbolise the royal authority of Joseon's (previous name for Korea) rulers. They demonstrate the king's divine position in relation to the order of the universe.

Ban-chan? (반찬) These are small side dishes that are shared with those you are eating with in Korea.

You've probably heard of kimchi (spiced fermented cabbage) by now and how great it is for the gut. That's a banchan. As well as egg rolls, acorn jelly, salted anchovies, sautéed vegetables and many more! In South Korea, these are usually free additions with your meal and they're delicious!

I recommend you share a few the next time you go to a Korean restaurant ;)

Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. Probably because it's the only meal where you can basically have dessert as a main. Is it your favourite meal?

Also love a hot drink!

Move aside France! Italy's pastry game is on fire!

My experience of the sfogliatelle (lobster tail pastry) and cannoli (tube pastry) in London and Nottingham has been bad! The fillings were too sweet and lacking flavour. But you've got to try the real things in Italy. I recommend the sfogliatelle with the ricotta and orange filling. The crunch is amazing!

A visit also isn't complete without some gelato and a panetone (usually only available during the Christmas period). If you like your treats and pastries, visit Milan. You won't be disappointed.
