September in Geneva brought emotional connections with the Japan of my youth
- a moving ceremony on 19 September welcoming “Shin’s tricycle” at the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum: three-year old Shinichi Tetsutani was riding his tricycle when the US dropped an anatomic bomb on Hiroshima on 6.8.1945 and he was buried with his tricycle in the family garden which was later moved and donated to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum - my first visit to HIroshima was during a trip with my high school in Tokyo⛩️
- “Fête japonaise 2024” in Carouge on 29 September - this year celebrates the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Japan and Switzerland: the first Swiss delegation arrived in the port of Yokohama in 1863 led by watch industry representatives and this was followed by a treaty of amity and commerce between Japan and Switzerland signed in Edo in 1864 -the “Bon-Odori” dances took me back to my summer childhood memories in Yokohama🇯🇵

Le 1er août - quel plaisir de célébrer la fête nationale suisse dans le village de Corsier où je réside en amenant les habitants dans un voyage historique à travers le siècles, on est même passé au télé-journal de France 3
First of August such a pleasure to celebrate the Swiss national day in the village of Corsier where I live by taking the visitors on a historical journey through the ages, we were even on the news of France 3 TV
Not to miss in Geneva: outdoor exhibition HUMANITY brings into the public space photographs by Henry Leutwyler - a selection from 30,000 original objects kept at the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum
These used objects are witnesses of humanitarian action to help victims of armed conflict and humanity’s attempt to find solutions by setting limits during wartime
As a former Red Cross aid worker and volunteer guide at the Museum, a number of these objects speak more to me than others but each one is very moving once you can imagine the persons behind them
It was therefore ta privilege to meet the photographer in person together with the Museum organisers and the Friends of the Museum association.
On the Quai Wilson until 5.08.24, symbolically in front of the UN Human Rights office at the Palais Wilson

Today is the 4th of July American Independence Day and it was celebrated in advance for friends and partners of International Geneva at the US Mission in Geneva
Popular American culture showcased: the role of baseball and sports in general bringing people together; iconic American foods and drinks; a great band playing hits across generations; a moving version of the Star-Spangled Banner by a soloist; and much fun and entertainment provided by enthusiastic staff and friends.
To find out more about the numerous historical links between the American and Geneva stories see the short videos on YouTube:

Café-Crêperie Saint Pierre vient de réouvrir au coeur de la Vieille-Ville @ville_de_genève
Tous les jours, sauf lundi, de midi à 22h00, c’est un lieu parfait pour une pause devant une magnifique vue de la Cathédrale, et un endroit idéal pour organiser des apéros en fin de journée
Le bâtiment médiéval agrandi en 1778 vient d’être rénové - sa façade offre de belles figures sculptées qui ornent certains de nos immeubles depuis le Moyen Âge

Highlights of a trip to the province of Ontario : its natural diversity including four of the five Great Lakes and the Niagara falls on the US-Canadian border, and Toronto - Canada’s largest and most multicultural city - with its stunning architecture and a bike-ride away from lake-side beaches passing by numerous film studios along the way …and more!
