Time to start lowering your radio volume! Starting July 1, 2022, Florida State Statute 316.3045 will once again become enforceable.

What does this mean for you?
It means that you will have to listen to your car radio at a volume that is NOT plainly audible at a distance of 25 feet or more. After July 1st you could receive a fine.

MOVE OVER: Florida Statute requires you to move over a lane when you can safely do so for stopped law enforcement, emergency, sanitation, utility service vehicles, and tow trucks or wreckers. If you can’t safely move over, or when on a two-lane road, slow to a speed that is 20 mph LESS than the posted speed limit, or to 5 mph when the posted speed limit is 20 mph or less.

Violating the Move Over Law will result in a fine, fees, and points on your driving record, and could cost a life. Please, stay alert and move over (or slow down).

If you ever met Deputy Freddie Rowell, your first impression would most likely have been that he was a nice guy. You would have been correct. Freddie was a friend to all who knew him and you never had to worry about keeping up your end of the conversation! He was the consummate "Always Smiling" type of man and was quick to offer praise or a kind word to everyone as he greeted folks at the entrance to the Sheriff's Office or Lee County Justice Center. There are those among us who just have that special something that brightens the day of all they see. Freddie sure had that "special something". After serving as a reserve deputy, he was hired as a full-time deputy sheriff and retired from the Sheriff's Office in 2020 after 10 years as a court security deputy. He was so proud to be a deputy sheriff and not a day went by that he did not let everyone know about it! Freddie fought so hard but after being hospitalized the past several weeks he lost the battle with the COVID-19 virus early this morning. We will miss him and that big smile. We are all better for him having passed our way. Our prayers are with his family, friends and the health care professionals who took care of him. God speed Freddie.
